heh i need to figure out what i'm even doing first

Thanks for the offer though. I'll keep it in mind.
'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

All 3400 heads and intakes are the same. But the 3100's didn't get the good big port stuff like the 3400's have until after 2000 (some rare 99s did though). After 2000+ all 3100's had the same heads/intakes as 3400. You must use the 3x00 heads with the intakes.

ever check out www.v6z24.com for ideas? Lots of hybrids, swaps, turbo guys on there.

for hybrid guide check out: http://www.domesticcrew.com/660/hybrid.html

And if you want to swap the full 3400 in later (most of the work will be done after doing the hybrid) http://www.domesticcrew.com/660/installguide.htm

here is one on ebay.. although the pipe appears to be installed backwards.

or you could find a Civic intake and just cut a few inches off one side.. that's what i did for my old 3.1 and for the 3400 swap.

Not all 3400 manifolds are the same, and I am not just talking EGR ports. 00+ flow better.

Well yes, but I was talking in regards to large port runners, and the bigger intake valves. 00+ has a better neck on the plenum.

Alright.. you guys are making me think too damn much here. Whats the easiest route to take, and which give you the most gains? lol.
Tell me exactly which head, which intake manifold, what size/make/model throttle body etc, and what needs to be modified for it to all work.

^ agree, its really that simple, but we like to discuss details. For the TB, you will have to make something work anyway so post a pic of your throttle body linkage and we can try to figure something out. I would imagine a J body owner can help with the TB setup.

So is there any difference between 3100 or 3400 heads/intake?
They bolt right up, correct? All I need is a full set of heads, and just the bare intake?

Not after 2000. Yes. Yes, and maybe TB depending on what you make work.

So I take out old 3.1 stuff, bolt on 2000+ 3100 or 3400 stuff, and go on my merry way? This is sounding all too good

I would just swap in the compleate 31/3400 then you will save some $ in the long run and you are starting out with a better block.

this goes over almost everything you'll need:

also check here for a small list of people who have done the same thing or done full swaps.

dont forget you'll need custom length pushrods if you use your 3.1 block with 00+ top end. I agree you should get a whole motor because they have roller cam...

                                That's a flat-tappet block (3.4 RWD), Gen2 pushrods, new cam/lifters, and 3500 heads with roller fulcrum rockers.
