  • Need the TOP mods to do for 3.1 Sunbird

I'm selling my 5.0 Mustang, and the remainder money will go towards mods for the Sunbird.
-I'm thinking an aftermarket CAI.. the factory one is SUPER restrictive. (where can I get a good aftermarket intake?)
    -wot-tech chip
    -maybe bigger throttle body
    -3100 parts?

As for 3100 parts, what can I use without machining? Heads? Intake manifold? Etc?

What else is a good thing to pick up for this car?
'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

Get 2000+ heads and manifolds. This is the best setup for a 3.1. Are you going for performance only, or gas milage as well? I want a j body 5 speed 3.1 hybrid for a daily driver (so I can tune for it as well). Everyone says swap, and I have a chip for a stock 3400 5 speed, but who keeps it stock:P You have a ton of options really.

Well i'm deffinently trying to retain gas mileage.. so are the 2000+ heads and manifolds still a good idea?

I'm just wanting a bit more out of this motor until I get the balls to drop a 3100 into it and mod that.

The 2000+ top end is still a good idea. Use the 00+ injectors, and we can see how well my 3400 chip works with it. Im sure some tweaks will be needed but the injector constant is already setup at least. If you wanted a cam, the 260 would be the way to go for the 3.1 block. Even the stock cam with the 3400 top end would be better than the stock 3.1.

ROFL. That would pretty much do it, but I would still take a gen 3 top end with that turbo.

No I dont wanna cam it. I dont wanna remove the motor from the car or go inside it. Just some basics. But will the intake manifold bolt right up and wire right up and all that? Stock ECU? How much gain would a 3100 intake give me? Where can I find all these parts for cheap?
Once I get all this installed, I'd deffinently be more than willing to try out one of your 3400 chips. How would we be able to do this from where we're located? Keep sending the chip back and you can read all the variables and whatnot?

                    ebay or make your own.

Do the 00+ topend or 3400 topend. Should be happy with the results. Also don't forget about exhaust.

ebay for a universal one?? Will those populer civic cai's fit? I suppose I could dick with it..

But you suggest 3100 or 3400 exh. manifolds too then? They bolt right up?

Oh and whats the difference between the 98 manifolds and the 2000+?
