Can anyone tell me what car the 3400 DOHC came on? I've heard I need the pistons to put together the 3500 swap in a 3.4.

1995 MonteCarlo or any Gen5 Monte. 1995 Pontiac GP GTP. I dont know which Camaros came with.....maybe someone else will chime in.....Ben?

3.4 DOHC was availible in any 1991-1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, 1991-1996 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1991-1997 Chevy Lumina, and 1995-1997 Chevy Monte Carlo.

I need some clarification here.

You need the 3.4 DOHC (the 3400 is a PUSHROD) pistons to put a 3500 in a car with the 3.4 DOHC? So many sentence fragments there.

Are you swapping a 3500 into your car? If so, Why do you need the 3.4 DOHC pistons? Are you trying to put 3500 heads on a 3.4 DOHC block? If so, that will NEVER work.




The CAMARO NEVER came with the 3.4 DOHC. The Camaro had a 3.4 SFI (pushrod). Not just the GTP got the 3.4 DOHC. It was offered in the SE's as well. Same with the Cutlass Supreme. It didn't have to be an SL to get the twin cam. There are a LOT of Cutlass Supreme S with it. Same with the Lumina. The COUPE with the 3.4 DOHC was the Z34, but the SEDAN with the 3.4 DOHC was the EURO 3.4.

With the Monte Carlo (never heard it referred to as a GEN 5. Usually it gets referred to as a GEN 1.5 W-body), all Monte Carlo's with the 3.4 DOHC were Z34's.

I have a 95 3.4 and am planning on doing to 3500 top end swap. I was told i could use the heads but would need pistons out of the 3400 DOHC to drop the compression

You need 3400 pistons to drop CR. The 3.4 DOHC pistons will give you about 12.5:1.

If you can tune the 3.4 pistons and 3500 heads will only be 11.5:1 - that can run on pump gas w/AL heads.

3400 fuel rail, 3 wire temp sensor and throttle cable from a '95GM truck. Then of course the gaskets and modificaions to your 3.4 parts for everything to fit.

Thats because you dont own one ...What the heck is a Gen 1.5? I am using the term Gen as in "Generation" The current Monte is a Gen7 06-07 and I have a Gen6 00-05

3400 pistons and 3500 heads is around 9.1:1

When he says 1.5 gen he means the platform itself (W-Body). The 2nd Gen (95-01) Lumina and 5th Gen (95-99) Monte Carlo siblings had some changes in the platform that makes them different from the first generation W-Bodies but not quite 2nd generation, so they are often referred to as 1.5 gen.

I think the changes made were in the suspension correct?
