  • Slicks..

Anyone know of a good/cheap place to pick up some slicks?

    I'm looking for 24.5" tall, 8" wide for a 15" rim.

I've checked ebay and they are going for around $175/tire new.. I'd even consider used slicks since they won't be getting used that much.

    Thanks

If it were race season I could possibly snag you some American Racing tires, but those are circle track slicks... Not sure how well that would work if at all.

You pry already know, but the newer the slick you get the better it is. used or old slicks with heat cycles or age get dry and loose their "stickyness""

meh, used FWD slicks are usually in pretty good condition once the guy realises hes got to much grip for his setup and snaps an axle....

Drag radials are useless for mine, Slicks should be just right if i don't dump the clutch too hard. My axles are the original GM ones with about 140,000 miles on them. Still rock solid.

Damn Dave, I'm jealous. I managed to break two driver's side axles, and one passenger's side axle ON STREET TIRES! Then I broke another passenger's side axle on Drag Radials. This always seemed to happen during/after a burnout from the burnout box. I would warm up the tires too much, they would grab hard, and BANG! Now I do a good burnout to warm them up, but then I ease off the RPM as I am leaving the box to reduce shock to the axles. My BFG g-Force Drag Radials grab well enough (2.04 60 ft launching at 2500 rpm), that I'd be afraid to run slicks. Good luck finding some cheap, and having your axles continue to survive!

It took 200,000 before my stock ones wore out. I replaced the passenger side, the drivers side now is shaking and knocking in turns.

I thought mine were going out last year, turns out the intermediate shaft was misaligned and destroying my diff.. good thing i have a spare diff.. lol

BTW, i picked up a pair of 24.5.8.14 slicks on ebay yestarday for $300 shipped.. Brand new Mickey Thompsons. Now i just need to find some 14" rims that will fit over my front brakes.

and now you see why i'll prolly never be able to run slicks, corvette brakes prolly wouldn't work so well ground down to fit under 14" wheels, haha
