3500 fiero failure update

it was a piston, #4. it seems as tho the piston broke or the wristpin did. either way there is a little bit of contact between the piston and head, but not enough to even score the head. the valves are strait and not leaking. there are no valve marks on the face of the piston. you can push the piston down into its bore and feel it pop or click before it moves with the crank. it does, however, move with the crank when the crank is turned.
there is no gouging of the cyl liner and no damage to the cross hatching.


so i need a new piston and a rod. there is no metal in the oil, so i assume the crank is fine.

i havent gotten any further apart, just one head off.

I've had piston break before but it was the skirt that broke..In my case.. my 1st engine rebuild...too much piston and not enough cam.. once I figured that out with the help of some people on this board and you all know who you are....I couldnt save it fast enough...Detonation galore...Engine was all torque and no HP.

I hope you get it running soon. I'm curious as to how fast it is (like 1/4mile or something). It sure looked fast as hell in the video!!!

Did you ever figure out why it was dumping gas into the oil so bad? Leaky injectors??

no leaking injectors....

bad news...#4 had no bearings on the rod....NONE!!!!

all the rod bearings are shot and the crank has significant wear on #4 rod journal. so i need a crank kit... any one know where to get a crank kit for a 3500???

So you are up for a road trip on either Sun or Tues? Or did you say something out coming today? My 3500 shortblock is in pieces, but could probably be put together or thrown in a box or 2 relatively quickly. I'll PM you with my numbers if you want to discuss it.
