  • 3400 or 3500 displacement?

is there a big enuf diffrence in power capabillity from the 3400 to the 3500 or is the displacement not enuf to make the diff ? i think there is only like 5-10 hp diffrence between the 3100 and the 3400 right ?
i am looking for more displacement but is 3.4 L enuf to make good power ?

The older 3100's had less power than the 2000+ ones. The 2000+ 3100 gets more power by using the 3400's heads and intake manifolds. The 3400 makes ~185, the 2000+ 3100 makes around 175. The older 3100's made 150-160 or so.

The 3500 has even better heads, and a better plenum. It makes 200hp.

3400 is fine and only requires one modified mount to swap into your vehicle, and you can swap on the 3500 top end onto that. A full 3500 requires an external crank sensor to run as well.

.1 L less displacement isn't going to be a huge drop in power. The 3500 makes most of it's power from it's top end. Have you checked out www.v6z24.com to look at the setups those guys run? Several 3500 swaps and lots of 3400 swaps there.

The rod/stroke ratio of the 3500, with the piston oil squirter for the 5 and 6 piston are what make me want a 3500 over a 3400. The 3400 is cheaper to use and modify for compression because previous 3.4 parts fit it.

The displacement alone isn't something I would be too concerned with.

so with minimal displacement diffrence will not make a big power diffrence then ?
i would love to have a 3900 but nothing seams to fit the new blocks and i am trying to make more power than the 3800

3900 could probably be used with an older cover or modified one with the cam locked into position and a reground like Joseph Upson did. Then use external crank sensor setup, and 3500 VVT plenum to get rid of variable intake, or use an RPM switch.

i would love to use a 3900 block but put the 3500 stuff on it to get rid of the vvt and the rest of that stuff
i think it was said that a 3900 cam sticks out of the timing cover or somthing
? and it would be to long to fit in my frame rails

i just read that you can bore and stroke a 3400 to around 3.7-3.8 L displacement by offset grinding the crank how is this done ?and is it worth the machine work ?
