  • comp cam springs or LS6 springs?

ok which would be better for my application. the comp cams springs found in the store here or the LS6 springs.

i currently have LS6 springs which i bought awhile back while i was collecting parts.

now which ones would be better for me to use with the 1357 grind from the store here.

just trying to figure out before i go ordering stuff i dont need.

the LS6's are fine for the 1357 grind, the comp 26986 springs are better but the LS6's should work out fine.

I measured coil bind at .5613" using LS1 shims with the yellow springs.

If you already have the ls6 springs, id say stick with those. You just need to pick up the rest of the stuff to make them work with the heads. If you didnt have those already, id say go with the 26986 springs, since they drop right in.

so these will be good for the .515 lift on the 1357.

                  ok cool dave

another thing while removing the timing chain that cam on the motor the crank sprocket slid off with no effort, so that got changed out with the new gm chain and sprockets i bought.

wasnt feelin how easy the sprocket came off. kinda surprised the chain didnt walk on the crank and hit the cover.

i used the 26915 springs on my heads when i wasnt impressed with the ls6 springs and im running .528 lift, i really liked them, til i took em off to go get ported and such. the good thing about springs are that if you dont like them, it isnt too hard to change them, unlike cams...yuck

also the crank gear wont walk on the crank due to the harmonic balancer...

yeah i was thinkin that but it was kinda odd that it was so easy to take off. the one on my other 3400 wont budge without a gear puller.
                        this one practically falls off.
everything i read said i would need a crank sprocket puller and here i am pulling it off with no effort. ah well made my work easier

yah my first one came off no prob, and i think its better like that since u dont have to worry about why its frozen on there

That probably has more to do with design then wear. The crank sprocket on my 3900 with about 3000 miles on it slid off without much of a problem as well and I noticed it was very helpful in removing the VVT module from the camshaft. It is important to note that GM instructions on installing the harmonic balancer on these newer engines requires two crank bolts, one to install the balancer flush and the second to torque down. Apparently the first is stretched in the process and since the sprocket is a loose fit a second bolt is needed for the added security of proper torque.

That probably explains what happened in a thread on the G6 forum where somehow a members 3900 wound up with piston to valve contact; improper torque, loose fitting sprocket, sheared key. He never gave the results, just that GM fixed it.

what was the reason you didnt like them. not strong enough or something.
