  • 3400 build Plans Finally Complete

After many decision changes as to where to go and what to do i cam eup and am settled with this.

Some of you may know I was the leading enthusiast for the RSM kit. I had a stage 2 set up and had awsome HP gains. My torgue gains were Dynoed at 365 lb.
Well everything was running great for about 2 months thaught I had all the bugs worked out, thenm kabbom damn cam gear breaks off and destroys my engine.
Im pretty sure it was because I was shifting and redlining at 6800. they told me not to, I didnt listen or the timing chain jumped and that was the culprit.
Doesnt matter its behind me and I finally have my plans for my new Build

My block is Bored .040 over it will take at least another .010 or .020 to clean it up and have it perfectly smoothed out.

Im looking at a overbore of .050 or .060 over stock

Im purchasing yet agian my 3rd set of Forged Racing pistons, Since I am going NA Im am going to have a compression of 11:5:1 for that extra umph! Im not sure if I will need dish, flat top or dome top. Since its only 2 valves per cyl. I think a dish top would give me that compression? Not sure any thaughts

Im purchasing Stage 2 heads and Cam from MMS

    With the stage 2 heads and Cam and a compression of 11:5:1 coupled with the countless performance mods already in tach such as;
    Ported Lower Upper intake
    65mm TB
Borla Full Exaust w/ High Flow cats
    Comp Cam Valve Springs
    MMS Push Rods
    Taylor 8mm Wires
    28lb inj.
    other guys Ceramic Coated Headers
3inch down pipe fabriated to match headers
    BM tranny Cooler
And yes I have a MAP TB shield..

I am hoping for a HP rating of 220+ and a 1/4 time of at least 13/s

I will be sonic testing the block for stress cracks and what not

My question is with building a High compression 3400 bored .060 over is there anything Im over looking because this is going to happen. Very Soon. And as far as I know no body has done a Hig compression 3400 yet!!

Please you intelligent input would be apreciated.

*NO HATERS PLEASE JUST CONSTRUCTIVE INPUT THATS APPLIES TO THE BUILDING OF THIS ENGINE

I built a 12.4:1 compression 3400 that is running and kicking ass on the streets in florida.

Wow really, do you have video?

      Was the cam stock?
      How about the heads?
      What pistons did you run?
Were they flat top, dome, or dished to achive that compression
And how was daily drivability on 91 pump gas, because I want that compression but afraid I wont be able to drive on 91

Oh yeah does any one know the cyl. tolerance as to how much compression it will hold up too

Why would you buy MMS stuff when Ben has so many more cam options that can put out well over 220 crank hp.... or please tell me you mean 220 whp...

I did 13.8's with 206hp 238tq IIRC.... I'd have to look at my dyno sheets again

Colin dynoed 222whp. The 3400 is Eric's and I have no video yet. Im dying to see it as well.

3.4 DOHC pistons (not forged). 3500 heads, ported, with ported manifolds and 65mm tb. Lots of other things were done to the engine, including a full balance job. Its running on pump gas (premium). He is running the stage 4 cam. Low end isn't where he wanted it but he is using the stock 4T45-E and 3.05 (or something around that) FDR and stock torque converter. Compared to the power increase after 3000 though, im sure the bottom end isn't all there. With a transmission upgrade, that won't be any problem at all

Ben, do the 3.4 DOHC pistons have the correct wrist pin size for a 3400 rod?

Nice I think im getting rid of my forged stock copies then. Sorry to whore up and steal the thread here, but will there be any clearance issues with my cam (1615)

John, it sounds like we are building a pretty similar engine, minus the cam and top end (unless you are going 3500) Good luck with it either way.

I had over .200" clearance with the 1331 grind. I would guess there will be enough room but I can't say for sure.

How can I acheive a higher than 10:1 ratio on my 3400 with 3500 upper end?

Camaro pistons or 3.4 DOHC pistons. I don't know what the camaro will give you exactly but its less than the DOHC.

you would end up with a 11.56.1CR using the camaro pistons and the 3500 heads
