  • i feel like an idiot...i cannot data log...help me

i dont know what im doing. shit you not.

ive used winald for everything ive ever data logged. now that i have the 7730 ecm i dont know what ime doing.
i have tuner pro, and tuner cat and i dont know what to do. its just a blank screen. and when i try to load a bin file it tells me to use $8f or $6d....wtf thats what im loading!

i dont even know if my interface is working. this is frustrating.

what do i need to do to datalog?

what do i need (file wise) to look at whats going on with my 3500?

i just want to data log right now. i cannot belive ive spent 3 hrs staring at a blank screen trying to do something, and ive gotten nowhere

$8F is turbo grand prix code. Are you boosted?

If not go with $A1 code. It's similar to $6d (2.8 auto?)

What is loaded on the ECM right now? What vehicle did it come from?

To data log you use a .ads file in tunerpro that is made for the bin you are running on your ECM. Hit F4 and select one. But first we gotta know what bin is on your ecm...

darth wrote the chip, i beilive its using the wbody code, but thats not confirmed. i just need to get data, does it really mater what my chip was wrote with? obviously turbo code is not going to work

I know your pain given what I went through with the process over the past 6 months. Give an exact detail of what you are doing and what you are using.

You must have the correct version of Tunercat to datalog, otherwise, you probably need to load the Beretta A1 XDF file in TunerproRT version, then the A1 bin and then the Beretta Ads file. Go to the preferences menu and choose the proper ALDL/emulation connection method and the correct port on the computer that the cable is connected to.

Power up the ignition and then choose ALDL connect. I'm not sure what kind of hardware you are using or if you are using a cable only to connect to the ecm.

And yes the chip in the ecm has to corraspond with the information the datalog program is looking for to connect in most cases.

Well, yes. Even though the ECM shares the same with other cars, different bins are loaded on to it, so the data stream will be different depending on the bin, so you will need the right data stream definition file to read that. Some are close enough that you might be able to data log, but for tuning/editing you will need the correct .xdf file. (for tunerpro rt, I haven't used tunercat yet)

.ads is what you use to read the serial ALDL info for datalogging.

.xdf is what is used to show the the right tables for editing and making sense of the bin.

$6d is 2.8 auto W body code from what I can tell.

Let me pull up the aldl.zip and see what datastream that uses, and if the $a1 def is close enough to data log with it. ( I do have a $a1 .ads file)

EDIT ok I can't find exactly the 89 W body datastream file to compare or even make a .ADS file from. Just try the $a1 .ads file and see if it logs anything correctly.

          Tuning info:

But you should use the $A1 bin not the TGP one, but still good info.
here is one regarding the ostrich emulator:

ok joseph, here what im using,

home-made aldl interface, and a rs-232 to usb and windows xp. i have the free versions of tuner cat and tuner pro. i figured free was fine to check things out by data logging...dont need to tune just yet. i need to watch iac counts and map values.

              here is a schematic

Have you tested this cable with any other software? What baud were those ECM's that you got working?

8192 baud is what you should be running now.

What bin file do you have running in the ecm right now? did the person who burned the chip give you the bin code for it too?

he didnt give me the bin code, but i havent asked either....

this cable works with winaldl, and it worked on my 94 corvette and 87 fiero ecm, so i assume it works with the 8192 baud, as i cannot imagine the vette being 160 baud.

but i havent even gotten to trying the interface yet, im still stuck on what the hell im doing with the computer and the programs. im going to play with this some while i drink a bunch of beer (i usually dont drink at all, but its xmas and i want some beer) we will see what happens and where i get. im not even going to hook up the interface, just going to try to work the program on the desk top for now...

Load up tunerpro RT. Hit F4, click browse and load that $a1 def I posted. That should give you an idea of how it will work. The $a1 def might even datalog ok with whatever bin is on your ECM. However you will need the bin and the .xdf file to change the code

do i need the .xdf to data log? i found a .xdf here on this site, but it was for a different ecm, looks like the one superdave was using....i loaded it just to take a gander and it looks like its for v8 fbodies.

if i dont load an xdf, i get nothing....

                          and hit '4' ? i did, nothing happened....f4?

Yes F4, sorry typo. Hold down ALT when you click the link to the files. Then you can save them. Save them to the right directory in tunerpro or wherever. F4, open the .ads file, and then you should be able to log (once connected).
