  • Early 2.8 tuning tips?

I have an '84 S10 Blazer 4x4 with the carbureted 2.8 (flat-tappet cam) and a 4-speed stick. AFAIK the engine is stock with somewhere over 50K on it; the PO told me it was rebuilt. So far I have the air pump and the A/C compressor disabled to reduce parasitic loss but I haven't actually removed any components.

Does anyone have any good timing and carb settings for my setup? Doesn't matter if they're factory or not as long as they work. FWIW I use the Blazer as my winter weather beater; it's not a mudder or anything like that.

    Thanks!

Well they tend to perk up a bit with about 2* additional base timing. The carb is just like a quadrajet sliced down the middle. So as with a quadrajet it is touchy and has a temper if you don't treat it right. But once your tuned on the money it runs like a dream giving you good throttle response smooth power and good wide open power as well. Other than that the engine is pretty much just like any other engine. Nothing special, no quirks easy to live with.
