    I run a 91' beretta (3.1 automatic) in asphalt oval racing.
    It is a class that is completely stock.
    Looking for performance tips that will pass tech.
    Already have a chip and cold air intake (yes thats legal ) race muffler and no cat.
    Looking for things like:
    plugs
    plug wires
    etc. etc.

    Trying to get every little bit out of it I can and still pass tech.
    Need help keeping up with the DOHC cars
    Please assume I know nothing and even the most obvious thing might have slipped my mind.
    Thanks!

        Why not change up the gearing?

          Does your sanctioning body have a challenge/tear down clause? Meaning can another racer ask for a tech teardown to see what you are running? If not you may look at simple porting of intake and heads, a cam upgrade and larger injectors. Maybe swap in a 3.4. A gear swap if you are running on a short track a numericly higher final ratio would help. You have to find where your peak HP and TQ are and try to keep your engine operating there as much as possible. Also look at lightening your car. If feasable get rid of everything not needed. Insulation, speakers, spare tire and anything else that you can. If this is also a street driver it makes it more difficult to dump everything. Two ways to increase your HP to weight ratio, make more HP or loose more weight. Cheaper to loose weight.

            yes they always pull the valve cover and upper intake off of the winning car...sometimes last year they did the top 3.
            Thanks for all the tips so far.
            I have drag raced for years.....so the "theory" of what it takes to go faster is understood
            Just looking for somethings that I might not have already thought of.
            Thanks again.

              Well if you are a drag racer you should already know how to go faster, problem is now figuring how to turn right. No help from me, all I know is watch the lights, mash the go petal, drop the t-brake and try to go straight. Oh yea, get to the other end 1st. It is interesting to see a class for circle jerkers with front drive cars, is this a specific class for fronts or just a street class?

                depends on how much you wanna spend. increase diplacement with a 3400 bottom end, that way you get better oiling and a roller cam as well, with more options for a cam from the store here, they cant tell if it's an aftermarket cam or not.... but if they were to pull the lower intake(they ever do that?) they'd see the roller lifter retainers.... even with the 3.1 bottom end they wouldn't know if it was a 260 cam though.....

                Cammed 3400 --> 224whp 210wtq
                Cammed 3500 --> ???

                  This is a "stock" FWD circle jerk class.....actually FWD circle track racing is growing fairly steady.....real popular up north and its making its way south.
                  Cheap easy fun.

                  I am really looking for any simple "bolt on" or.....this works better than that.
                  Not really trying or wanting to break the rules.....just bend them or manipulate them
                  I just figured if someone knew that "this" plug works better than "that" plug etc etc.

                  Thanks again.

                    I was looking at your photo's, answered my question about street driven. No offense meant by the "circle jerk" just what I call it. I am gonna look more into this class, looks cheap and fun. Might actually be something you can compete in without spending 50 grand.

                      no offense taken
                      it is a blast......to get started it actually cost me less than $500. and with that I won 3 features, 5 heats in 6 races (2007)......like I mentioned, I have drag raced for the better part of the last 15 years running a 1970 maverick that has went 10.45@128 and it pales to the fun that I have had with this $400 car
                      no I am looking into spending some $$$ on it to make it faster.....typical racer

                        iirc you can grab the 1.6 rockers off of some 1994/1995 3100 heads and gain a little extra lift from the cam.. and they look stock. Also a set of 3400 exhaust manifolds with a 2.5" downpipe would help it breathe a little better.

                          get a 00 3100 engine. maybe they don't know that the MPFI came in the car and since it still says 3100 they won't think anything of it. people still think these are the same engine. its funny. people think the 3400 on mine is stock sometimes when i open the hood at gatherings. it looks stock. and keep it dirty.

                          hell 3400 bottom end with a 3100 plenum. hehe
