I was wondering what kind of horsepower people are getting from 3100s I have a 94 Z26 was wondering what kind of mods will be needed to get over the 200hp mark and still drive it everyday I am going to be rebuilding my transmission if the one from my 96 Lumina will not work because it was just rebuilt so I should be able to put it to the ground I want a cam but not sure what are some good ones to use I also might use 3400 heads and intake depending on $$$ and how long my current motor last also if any one can make headers let me know I am very interested

Good questions. It does help us a bit to understand what you are saying if you use a little more punctuation. :P
3400 heads are going to be your best bet. And they aren't expensive used at all. sometimes $100 for a set of used heads.
If you do cam, heads, headers, exhaust, ported topend you can probably expect around 200+whp if you have the right porting done. But you would need 3400 ported heads and ported intake manifolds like the ones in the WOT-Tech Store. www.60degreev6.com/store
That or do a 3400 topend swap(heads,upper and lower intakes, TB stock ported plus a 75 shot of nitrous will put you over 200whp.
Zex kit #82021 is a bolt on Wet nitrous kit. 55-75hp shot. It is what I run on my 95 3100.
Actually in stock form with a 75 shot of nitrous should get you probably around 185-190whp.
Which setup are you leaning more towards then I can go into specifics with you.

I will probably do a 75 shot. Should I use stock style pistons or is there better ones to use. I will be boring it .030 over so I will have to get new pistons. I forgot to mention the first time. you can't mill .040" off the heads, max is .020" and unless they need it you shouldn't do that much.

If you are building up a motor then yes just get a 3400 and build it up and swap it over. A 3400 can fit 3500 heads and intakes but that lowers the compression down to 9:1 or so. But you can then get custom pistons and bring it back up. Or use 3.4l iron head rwd pistons to bring the compression up. A hot cam and port work would be very sweet with that. Headers will have to be custom or chop up a set of the S&S headers to re-angle the back ones and crossover to clear the angle of the firewall. Go with 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust either way with a custom NEW 2.5" downpipe (stock is double walled and and 1.625" ID). If not running headers 2005 impala 3400 exhaust manifolds have big ports that match 3500 ports and would be good for some extra flow, or run 2 front 3500 "shorty header style" manifolds for front and rear and combine them to a Y pipe under the car. High flow cat, and straight through muffler (dynomax ultraflo etc). 65mm throttle body and CAI or K&N drop in in the stock air box and mod it for more flow like I did.
BUT. With all this radical setup which will have lots of power, you will HAVE to have a way to tune it or you won't make near the power you should or even have it run very smoothly (especially with a hot cam). Being able to tune will let you run larger injectors and then tune it so the AFR is perfect in all situations. 1994-1995 has an ECM that no one offers a way to tune it. It is flash-able and has no removable prom, but there is nothing out there that supports it.
Easiest way to tune and still keep your auto transmission is to do the OBDII upgrade. Go to www.bstuff.com and look in the V6 Performance section. There is a sticky on the parts you need and how to splice a few wires. That shows you how to do it with just a ECM, and engine harness swap. You don't have to swap interior harness this way. And then you gotta find a DHP powrtuner but they are discontinued so that may be hard until someone sells theirs... you can check the grand prix GTP boards for those for sale...
Other wise it's downgrade to OBD1 with chip burner or emulator but then you loose the ability to control your electronic transmission.... You might be able to do a stand alone ECM and piggy back it with the stock one, so that the stand alone only controls fuel/spark and the original controls transmission and gauges/etc still..Last edited by IsaacHayes; 12-16-2007, 07:32 PM.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

if the car already has a 3100(94 does IIRC) then very little, it is, for the most part, plug and play. minor things liek the EGR will need changed or removed, but that's no big deal....
