Hopefully a good monster for what I want.
I was looking at that cam for my big boost motor build. Still haven't decided yet though.

Did you click the link I gave you in post #59? They look chrome, but need a clearcoat to keep that appearance. Chrome is a lot more durable then polished aluminum as far a scratching etc (chrome is a heavy coating), but under the hood if you clear laquer the aluminum to resist stains and oxidation etc - it will last just as long. Laquer is usually found on OEM aluminum rims, and is quite durable.

They can be, but a good in person eye can see what it really is. Chrome is nice, but it (IMO) is the easy way out. I prefer the polish alloy look since you know it took & it just looks better.

Well, this is 3x00 covers that are polished in my shop...

They look even better up close. Since these, the process has been perfected and they come out even better. Here's what they looked like when started...

              and after the whire brush...

Here you have it guys. This is what I paid for my Performance 3400 short block including the installing of WOT-Tech Street/strip heads and valvetrain with correct length moly pushrods.

One note on the quote is the Cam they had grinded by schneider. I sold that grind and went with a WOT-Tech 1357 Cam.

Be prepared to drop your Jaw. This doesn't include what It cost me to have the heads ported and the cost of the valvetrain. All they did was install and clearance the heads.

Oh yea, one last thing... Can I have a few G's? You evidently have money in the bank.

To chrome aluminum you need to plate it with nickel first. Usually copper, then nickel, then chrome. Don't know about the back side of the cover, if that is not smooth and prepped then it might flake which would be bad inside a motor. No idea how cast aluminum would take either. I'm guessing Ok if you got it smooth enough. Chrome will have a bit more bluer or darker tint to it than polished aluminum.

Just get some good high temp clear so it doesn't yellow and coat em nicely after polish.

Cast takes in fine IF you can clean the pores good enough with the aforementioned steps. Depending on where you have it chromed it'll either have a blueish tint or blackish tint.
