I was looking for any specs they had on it, IE how strong it was VS the newer one..

Yes, it needs the matching cam and crank sprocket.

my crank sprocket went on very snug, kinda weird but it's on there, pics in a few of another issue.. Not sure about the cover, i haven't gotten that far yet. Just putting on the LIM and torquing the rockers now.

          the other issue i mentioned...

the 3500's dampener sits very tight against the chain, does anyone have a pic of this style chain on an older 3100?

You need the older style dampener. Go to a parts store and grab one real quick. I never took a pic of mine when I had it apart.

No you can not use any of the newer parts on that style chain, you need all the matching parts, sprocket's and dampener. Otherwise you'll destroy it on first startup. Also the timing cover clears with no problems. Did you forget that I swapped to this chain on my 05 3400? And I'm using a 3500 timing cover IIRC...

AND yes the crank sprocket is pressed on vs the newer ones were its like a slip fit.

Where and or who are the suppliers of this chain and gear combo? I hit the link Dave posted and its an info only ? Also do you have to use the 3500 timing cover for this set up or can you use the 3400 timing cover if in deed it is a 3400 it will be put in.

                  Cheers

Ok this chain is nothing special, its a 94-99 3100 or 3400 chain. I just bought one for a 96 Chevrolet Beretta and I got this chain, it fits under a 94-05 3100 3400 or 3500 timing cover since they are all created equal minus a few bosses on the outside of them, internally they are the same depth. JUST remember, you need chain, gear set, AND dampener.

Mine was a Cloyes set, as you can see the box in the pic, I'm not sure which brand Dave went with though.

This was standard issue on anything pre 2000, Maybe they upgraded to reduce valve train rotating weight, I have no clue.

um new ones from cloyes are only like $15 its worth it to get one with soft rubber rather than old hard rubber on it.

$45 for everything Cloyes set's And if it stretches then I'll just get a GM chain later, now that I have all the other parts.
