Anyone tried pockets for valve spring cups? Is there enought material to open up pockets like a sbc and use cups. Seems like this would open up more options for valve springs and also keep them centered properly. There are tons of offset spring retainers to properly locate the keepers available. If the installed height could be brought close to that of sbc spring choices would be endless and cheap.

i know on the iron heads there is enough room, but on my 3400 and 3500 heads it looks iffy to dig in far enough for cups. may be enough room to take it down a few thou, but not much more3500, 1280 cam and PR, ls6 valve springs, port and polished heads, ported lim, ported uim, 4.3 70mm tb, ported trueleo headers and y pipe ALL FOR SALE (minus the car)

how many different kind of springs do we need? the yellow LS6 springs cover several cams and fit with minor mods, and ... http://www.lingenfelter.com/Merchant...Category_Code=
i would think machine work to insert cups would negate the cost of cheaper springs. if there are cheaper springs out there.Andy

The LS6 springs are a good spring but they don't cover every application and rpm. Know all about ligenfelter also, I live a few miles from the shop. I was looking at a post on here where these LS6 springs walked and ate a set of seals ! Cups coulda saved that. If you have your heads in for machining pockets don't cost much. Personally I don't like single springs for high performance, don't like the high seat pressure. The installed height of the LS6 springs is just a tad shorter than when used on the LS6 giving a little higher spring rate. With the relative light weight of these valves the LS6 may be a little aggresive and beat the crap out of your valves and unneccesary for anything that isnt going to see extremely high rpm's. Of course I am just learning the specifics on the 60 v6 but I've been around when it comes to other engines. I've been from blown big blocks to turbo inline 6 these 60's are another option and another venue to play. Actually from the recent reading and teardowns of a couple they seem to be full of potential and a overall good design. The only limit I see is the fact the aftermarket hasn't picked up on them.

They weren't LS6 springs, they were Comp 26915's.. and that was only because the bottom of the spring was free to walk around. Sure cups would fix that but so do the LSx spring seats.
IIRC the 3900's have spring cups stock, if we could get a part number i'd be happy to test fit one to make sure they fit the older heads.
