Helps with oiling. The crank isn't gettin slowed down by oil.

Not to burst your bubble, but this and Bull nosed counterweights seem to be the latest trend. However, anything to be rid of that flat face is bound to be better than nothing.

Clearly visible in this photo is another feature of the Lunati Pro Series crankshaft: the "Countoured Wing" counterweights, designed to deal appropriately with oil overspray coming out of the bearings as well as oil dripping from the valvetrain above. Unlike "knife-edge" counterweights--which simply split oil down the middle--the Lunati counterweights are specially contoured at their leading edges to direct oil (and air) away from the connecting rod journals. This reduces windage and frees up horsepower.

Even the 3.4 I bought has the same "3.1L 981" markings, just some have the reluctor notches, other's don't.

are you going to continue and deburr the crank aswell?

actually, if you look into aerodynamic theory, you'll see that most of the "issues" are on the trailing edge

i even had a thread about this... theory is that if you round out the front of the nose along with the bottom and then tapper the back end it will actually cut through a lot smoother than a knife edge or bull nose, seeing as aerodynamics and fluid dynamics closely follow each other in reactions and so on, this should provide the most gains and smoothest running engine... in theory

i would really like to be able to test 3 cranks but unfortunetly i dont have the time or money, nor do i have an engine dyno.... a "tear dropped" crank should also be easier to balance

Still, it should show some improvement regardless. Along with a crank scraper that would be nice.

I forget what I paid for it. I think like $150 for the knife edge? I could be way off.

I'm pretty sure the crank is finished. I could be wrong with that statement as well. All that I know is that this engine shop is top notch.
