crane rocker stud problem

I purchased the crane gold rockers from another member on v6z24. i unexpectedly recieved some arp rocker studs, which to my assumption were the right ones for using them in a 3400. the issue i have is:
1. the studs i recieved also do not directly thread into the stock rocker holes, the studs have a larger size threaded head end. I did not see anywhere that the stock holes must be drilled and retapped for these, is that right?

2. bigger problem, when i slide the rocker over the top of the stud, the rocker body rests and rubs on the base of the stud...? not sure on this.

so...what is the difference between using the 8mm, and 10mm studs?
the ones i have look just like the ones i have, (besides actual diameter under assumption).

i have a 2003 3400.
do i need different studs, or is there supposed to be modification that i had not seen before?

03+ (I thought it was 04+, but maybe it was 03) heads went to a smaller 8mm rocker stud from the previous 10mm stud. Therefore, if the person who sent you the studs had pre-03 heads, then they would have had the 10mm heads. And they probably didn't even think about (or possibly know about) the difference.

Not sure on the 2nd question, as I have never used these rockers, so I'm not sure what exactly you are talking about, nor if it is an issue or not.

The rocker arm won't go as far down the stud when you are installing them on the motor. The pushrods won't let the rockers go down that far with out opening the valves.

Arp sells the studs you are looking for. They have an 8mm bottom and 3/8" top

^ thanks, that's what i'll need, assuming i wont have the rockerbody rub on the base also...?
when i go to the store and wish to order the 8mm 3/8 top arp studs, shall i contact you or the store for these specifically since that is all i need? rather, since i already have the rockers.

your question has already been answered-

The rocker arm won't go as far down the stud when you are installing them on the motor. The pushrods won't let the rockers go down that far with out opening the valves.

but that doesnt make any sense, the rocker has to rest upon the stud, before the pushrod even comes into play. yes, the rocker is resting on the stud in my case, but in the absolute wrong place, it shouldnt rest on the body. and if it is there is somthing wrong, and lets say the rocker is "supposed" to rest on the base, for whatever reason, every valve would be open, because the rocker is sitting over an inch lower than it is supposed to. thus maxing the rockers job as to lift.

no, the rocker doesn't rest, it simply uses the stud as a pivot point, these aren't like the stock rockers... they rest on the pushrod and the valve stem tip

Arp's part number is 134-7221 for the 2 piece pack. This will allow you to buy only 6.
Also you will not be able to use your current rockers on 8mm studs. They will be loose on the studs. You need to look into getting another set.

You say your new roller rockers fit the lager studs you already have. If you go to a smaller stud the roller rockers will be too large to be able to use them.
