Exactly.. It's a toy, nothing more.

You should have seen me the day i blew my 3400 on the track.

For the valve seals, iirc on the front it was 2 intakes and 1 exhaust that popped off.. I know the center intake port on both heads is black as all hell. I might go buy a small sandblasting booth today to clean that junk out.

The exhaust ports almost seem like they've been powdercoated black, even a course crossbuff was having a hard time cleaning the crap off.

Thats not bad at all, for your build, including trans. Im up to about $2400 already, and its going to be another $1k probably before its all said and done. Then comes transmission, and trying to piece together some turbo stuff.

cost of car- $800??? kinda free i guess....
cost of 3500 engine block- $200
pistons and rods to dave- minus $100

total so far is $100-900 depending on how you look at me getting my car (i was owed money)

so far this is a cheap build... now i just have to get the other crap which im sure will bring the price up quickly expecting to spend over $2k on the short block, another $2.5-3k or more on the top end and then comes the turbo... and this is just in parts, the engine will cost close to if not over $7k to finish if i get to do what i want

I'm only up to about $1200 for my hybrid. The only items left to buy is rings, cam and lifters. This included all new bearings, oil pump, kept the pistons/rods, reman crank w/ clevite bearings, all new gaskets, a used 3.4 block and 3500 heads.

Helps that I have a machine shop to work in

It's the little items that get you in the end. You don't realize 10 trips to the prts store can turn into $500 really fast, lol.

$5200 for my short block. $3000 for the topend. $3200 for transmission.

Watching it all blow up at the race track.......

Somebody shoot me if this were to happen.

Crank harmonics are basically the crank twisting like a torsion bar and then unspringing. Gear drives are known for transfering those same harmonics through the cam and even on to the distributor if one is present. A chain will absorb them a little better. A good belt drive for these engines is what is really needed. A belt will almost completely eliminate harmonic transfer to the valve train. Only thing I could never figure out is why belt conversions are so da** expensive. I suppose a really good quality double roller chain set up would be a improvement.
