I want to know the condition of your chain upon removal. Do you have an aftermarket crank pulley?

Yes I do have a FFP UDP, I've had one on my old 3400 too... I may be tearing into that motor as well to put in my car, so I'll check that chain... That one however is the old style chain, yet it ran no aftermarket cam in its life.

The one that is currently in my car is a 05 3400 chain, so new style.

94-96 possibly 99 had the thicker chain, and then 00+ was the thinner one that dave has shown...

I cant remember exactly when they switched, but the older one was definately larger, if it was stronger I dont know.

I'm guessing the chains are interchangable without modification?

Why is that one piston clean, and the others not?

I'm gonna go out a limb here and say he cleaned it to double check the damage and see if there was any intake valve pits.

Oh Dave, I spit some beer out laughing out loud on this one. I wish everyone had your calm disposition about such an event. That's neat as hell that the valves aren't bent, but let me pose the question could this have caused the valveseal unseating?

lol I agree, if I even had to tear down my 3500 for something like the leaking valve seals I'd be upset as all hell.

Daves a true wrencher....he has been pushing that 3500 quite hard lately...I dont think he expected NOTHING to hurt, my guess is he pusshed it till it broke so he knows the limit for next time or what to do to reach a new limit........Am I getting warm there Dave ? hehe

Don't know about Dave, but I've done the same kind of thing. After turboing the Firebird, pushed the motor to a spun bearing - twice. Wish I had a grasp on tuning at the time

Push it till it breaks, especially if it's not your driver
