  • opinions on heads by supersix motorsports?

im looking into buying their stage 1 heads. they claim that with 1.80 intake and 1.60 ex valves and port work they got 228 cfm of flow on the intake, thats up from 150cfm so it should help alot, in theory. im just worried that they gutted em out so bad they will still suck. they also use a 3 angle valve which sucks but can be easily remidied at my machine shop. id rather know ahead of time if theyre any good or not before i deal with the 1000 dolalrs and a pair of heavy iron heads.

www.supersixmotorsports.com is their site. i e-mailed them about it, they dont have flowcharts (of course) nor dyno graphs. its up to word of mouth to c how they are.

Where are you seeing info on the 60V6 heads? All I see is 90V6 heads. There is on place that mentions 94-95 3.4 Camaro/Firebird, but it is lumped together with the 95-up 3800 heads.

did they specify what they did to acheive 228cfm? seems like a high # for the irons. did they "shark fin" the humps in the intake port or grind them down comepletely? i have a set of irons with a mild p&p job and my intake flowed like 130 cfm stock. after the porting they gained about 40 cfm to 167@.480 lift. after that lift point no gains were acheived. i assume its because of the small port volume for low end torque, and the ports stall out.

IIRC Curtis "TurboZ24" has iron heads that flowed in the 200+ range. I bet they're a few lbs lighter with all that material removed.. lol

yeah he comepletly removed the humps. with all the boost he was pushing it helped with the peak torque curve. but i didnt want that on mine, simply because i wanted a flatter torque curve.

my machine shop told me i could just grind out the humps and then just clean up the ports and it would be good enough. the guy thought the humps wouldnt really be needed if you have a good manifold to flow more air.
on the other side, the general opinion is that removing the fin hurts flow above .$300 lift. so i dunno, im gonna talk to my shop when i get the chance and see what they say about my work, mabye get them to flowbench. on the off chance it was no good i wanted to see about buying a set of heads already done.
i am a little puzzled how they got a head to flow that well from such poor flow numbers which is why im asking around if anyone knows about them

The increase in valve size will allow for higher flow as well.

Along with 5 angle valve jobs.

I wouldn't cough up that kind of dough without proof of what they did.

Some people are stuck on iron heads, but a guy named Tiago spent $900 on a set of race-ready iron heads and they still flowed less than a set of 3400 big ports.

Actually for less then that, you could have a full 3500 in your Fiero.

1.80 does come pretty close to the valve size required for a 576 cc cylinder(93bore 85 stroke) ill give them that. the 1.8 valve also brings the hp peak to 7843 which is not something im gonna reach on this engine. unless the port size is too small for the valve it would probably be bottom end overkill. not sure since i havent measured the ports area.

i do have the literature and formulas to build the head up to match the engine best but i dont have the time to actually do the head work mainly because im lazy. hence why im trying to just buy a head done by someone who can crank this out quickly and well. so im trying to find out if their stuff would be a good buy or not.

o yes i agree there are much much better engines out there. i just wanna use the biggest stock type engine. im not trying to make the fastest fiero or have oodles of power but well ported heads make the engine run much better, with a bonus of hp and a much better powerband while keeping the same feel of the car(yes, debatable). if i were to do any engine i would just use a supercharged ecotec with its 6spd lsd trans. more than 100lbs less and twice the hp cant be beat.

a five angle valve job is a must for me i dont know why they dont do them, thats an easy way to further increase the flow number.

has anyone used these heads or had any experience with them? that was my question, not why i would want them or what i should do instead.
