  • 2.8 intake

I have a S 10 2.8 stroked to 3.1, 86 camero iron heads, cammed, dualed off with 1.5" homebuilt headers. I'm running the S 10 2 barrel carb. I have a spare intake, I was looking at where the carb mounts and noticed the primary side has a small opening 1 3\8" compared to the secondary opening 1 13\16", also noticed what apears to be the EGR ports dumping on the primary side, lots of sharp edges. I know there are aftermarket intakes available but was thinking about hoggin' out the spare stock intake, opening up the primary side smoothing out the sharp edges and doing some gasket matching. Has anyone done this, was there any improvement? Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Rick

It probably wouldn't hurt to do that. You would probably get more out of the Edelbrock intake.

If your're talking about making the primary side larger don't bother,it won't help and could even hurt by slowing intake velocity unless your adding a bigger carb. Gasket matching the ports is always a good idea but expect any noticeable gains.

Yea Your going to need a 2bbl carb with the same size bores. The stock spread bore actually works very well for drivability. The 2SE is basically a Quadrajet sliced down the middle. Very good carb that runs well if you know what your are doing. People who don't know how to truly tune a carburetor severely mess them up.

Now the Edlebrock Tqr 2 with a 390 or 450 on the other hand may just release some power out of that motor of urs.. If you already have cam and exhast it sounds like the intake is key to freeing that 20 hp ur looking for. Id say try looking for a used torker 2 then hog out the ports going to the left bank being as there half the size of the right bank ones..
BTW For making any power the stock 2bbl carbs suck anyways..

Offenhauser made a 4 bbl. manifold for the 660, which I had with a 390 holley and 260 cam and it ran good but they are no longer in production. Weber makes a couple of two bbls, that can be adapted to your stock manifold which is sufficent for a mild cam.

I've read a few old posts about the Offy intake and a few posts that had good things to say about weber carbs. I think I'll stick with what I have for now, have the spare manifold thought I would work it over but it isn't sounding like a good idea any more. I already have another major project in the works, an extra 3.1 I'm going to put MPFI and a mega squirt computer. Just have to find the right vehicle to put it in, looking at a 1976 triumph TR7 this weekend.

That triumph would be a great candidate for a v6, I want to find an MG midget or something european and 1500lbs for my next swap

( another thread gone off topic) I also thought an early RWD datsun B210 would be a good candidate. I'll have to post pic's of my ride 87 B2000 with the S10 engine I talk about at the start of this thread. Ortie just watch your chevett video, dont know why I never thought of a chevett I will have to start lookin' for one of those now. Cool car!
