thats a sale? holy shit.... $1700 for v6 headers is way to much and IMO, so is $1000 when you can get n-body headers for $700, i could see $1000 being the super high end exotica headers but thos look like something i could put together without much trouble, i just dont see $1500 worth of labor there and i know the steel to build them isnt more than $200....

Like i said on V6, the original price was $1400cdn and 1200 usd.. they fudged the numbers to make it look like a sale.
JBP is crap, they've totally ripped off most of their customers.. even "friends" of theirs.

Expect to pay $2000 plus to have a custom set of headers like that produced from a header/exhaust shop. At least that is how much I was quoted.Last edited by blackbombshell95; 10-28-2007, 01:19 AM.

IMHO... it may not be the ultimate material but 304SS is a much better choice than mild steel. The 304 headers have low heat transfer and unlike ceramic coated steel headers, you can dent them for clearance, modify them, add EGT/O2 bungs, weld on them and don't have to worry about rusting through because the coating got chipped.
FYI: Although 304 stainless has the highest carbon content of the 300 series, it is still very low compared to steel and a good choice for N/A headers.
With that being said, the JBP collector design isn't very efficient but the price isn't that bad for low production headers made from stainless with V-band clamps. $2000 for a set does seem high to me as well but it depends on where you live and the local labor rate.
Yes, jigs and fixtures can be made but the cost of making them has to be recovered as well as development costs, marketing costs and overhead. It's all an investment that you hope to recoup down the road. With new products in a low volume field it's a gamble making new products. I do not know JBP but do make 60V6 parts and know that you have to make a profit to stay in business. I've heard so many people say "it only takes a few hours to make that". Perhaps their time is free but employers do not get free anything. Employers have to pay wages, social security taxes, unemployment taxes, workers comp taxes, property taxes, vacation pay, holiday pay, sick pay, 401K match, health insurance, business insurance, rent, electric, phone, heat, water, equipment payments, equipment repairs, materials, supplies and on and on and on................. hopefully to make a 10~15% profit in the end. Then employers have to deal with productivity issues. How many people reading this give their employer 8 hours work for 8 hours pay every day? Honestly, aren't most people looking for a job where they get the highest pay for least effort? I don't know a single person who says they would love to shovel gravel in the hot sun for $1 an hour, do you? What's your time worth? No need to answer, just something to think about.
Okay... enough of my rant.
The sad reality is, the 60V6 performance market is quite limited and the after market parts production numbers are never going to be high enough for large manufacturers to make low cost parts like they do for the SBCs that remained basically the same for over 40 years and have a broader following.MinusOne - 3100 - 4T60E

Umm... don't you mean 12 hours of pay for 8 hours of work? That's the way every tech around here is, a job has an amount of time it should take, and your goal is to go under that time to get more cars in and out. Say a limg job... flag hours might be 6 or 7 or something, but if you can do it in 4 you still get paid for 6 or 7 hours of work.
On this header thing, I've heard the JBP headers don't even fit worth a shit. At least that's the word from 1 guy I know who bought a set.
