if i were to say get the small turbo off of a saab 9-3 or something and set it up in my car.... would i notice any gains you think? i was contemplating it last night since they aren't very large and if i did see gains it would spool up very quickly since i have a six cyl. any thoughts or input would be appreciated. also this would be a low boost option as a temp until i get my new motor/trans setup in spring or summer possibly

its a turbo.. if it creates boost its impossible not to show atleast some gains
deffinetly not the best choice but since your not looking for much power it should be fine, but i strongly advise you tune it and think about an adjustable FPR so you can up the pressure a lil to keep up with demands until you get your new engine setup

damn i forgot the saabs had turbo's.
hmm gives me idea for added power in new build.sigpic

the saab ecotec turbo is fairly small, deffinitly too small to make much power on a v6. however, if your looking for lots of low end and not having to rev it high for the power, it could work. however, in a fwd, having a pile of torque is kind of pointless.
most guys that turbo these motors are running something in the neighborhood of a t04e 54-60 trim

thats exactly why i said go JY, most of the turbos are a bit smaller than ideal and would be great for around 4-8psi which is the neighborhood i would recomend you stick to knowing your situation... 4-6psi would be great really as it wouldn't tax your injectors to much (you would still need to adjust fueling a bit)
$800 would be a great price for 40 extra hp but $1k-1.2k might be more realistic knowing your skill level

actually going with too small of a turbo will adversly affect peformance. out of boost it provides a large restriction killing torque. it will spool quick, but it will also be out of its efficiency very quick. once its out of it efficientcy, it will still make boost, however too small the boost may start to drop. also the turbo will create much more heat out of its efficiency wich can cause detonation.
i think about the best j/y turbo you may find for this would be a t3 from a t-bird turbocoupe. a deisel turbo can work but generally will have lots of lag (at least a holset from a dodge does). possibly a ford deisel turbo, iirc, they arent actualy all that big.
