actually the ls6 started out at 395 IIRC and in 02 it was increased as they tend to do to keep things "exciting"
side note... the base (ls3) corvette is now as fast as the 02+ c5 zo6

LS3 comes out with the 2008 C6's as the base engine and in the new Camaros. The 05-07 C6's had an LS2 400hp for the base, which I believe was as fast as the C5 Z06 since it's same power but more torque and the C6 is lighter. Makes you wonder what the next Z06 upgrade will be...sigpic
