  • Hello

Hi, my name is Nate and I've been lurking the forums for a while now doing some reading, and trying to figure a way to get into a race car on the cheap. I have two 2.8 engines sitting at the house so that will be my base (and the class I'm going to compete in requires me to stay under 3.01L) so using a different block with higher displacement isn't really an option. I am somewhat confused by reading and was wondering if someone could clarify for me what heads will fit onto the 2.8 block. That is it for now but as my project slowly progresses I'm sure I will find many more questions.

    Thanks,
    Nate

wouldn't all 3x00 heads fit? excluding the 3800 for clarification.

all 60*v6 heads will bolt on, with the exception of 3500 and 3900. your best bet would be some 3400 heads. would also be advisable to use a 3500 plenum, they have proven themselves very good.

what kind of car is this going into, what are your rules as far as engines/transmission go, and what is your engine budget???

3400 with 2.8 crank. Lets push that displacement closer to the limit. If you want to race, you want all you can get.

Need to know the rules before we go crazy with possibilities.

i figure that to be 3.025l on a stock bore, so that may not be an option for him. a .040" over 2.8l will be 2.9l, would be enough displacment. i highly doubt the slight increase in displacment would amount for much

Use a 3100 block if its going to be too much with a 3.622 bore. Better oiling and lower friction valvetrain and shorter pushrods would be the way to go.

                    Hence the "2800"

I suppose you could bore it .040" (or whatever it is to clear the chambers)and use the 3500 top end as well.. that would make some serious N/A HP.

The engine block came out of an 85 S-10 Blazer. The car that it is going into has yet to be determined (possibly a 240z car, or a Chevette) The car will be used for land speed racing, first at Maxton in NC, and then one day hopefully a trip to Bonneville. Im trying to use up a lot of spare parts that are just laying around the house. The car is going to be set up either carbed, or mechanical fuel injection, leaning more towards the carb set up at first. This will require the use of a custom sheet metal intake which is something I am actually looking forward to tackling. My dad runs a 35 Ford with a 215 baby Nailhead and holds a "soft" record in the E/CGALT class at 105.49 I am looking to compete in the class below him. http://www.ecta-lsr.com/ is the link to the Ecta's main web site, this is a picture of his car sitting at the start line ready to make a run. Thanks again for the info and I am sure that I will be reporting back with tons more questons as this little project progresses.

A Chevette is a death trap unless you put a cage in it.. I thought about putting my 3.5 in one a while back...

OHH IS that a fact???... LOL, Juss kidding, yeah, id clarify a chevette as a quite a handfull at high speeds on salt, if set up properly it shouldent be a problem on asphalt tho.. Ur still in a glorified go-kart.. only problem I see with a 240 is the weight, other than that i think it would be quite areodynamic compared to the brick shape chevettes are to look like.. in the 2.8L chevettes ive ran on asphalt/Highway have easly been able to hit 220kph then again its not too hard to push 2200lbs that fast
