  • question on springs

This week Ill be ordering the stage 1 cam from the store here... and the question I have is that it is said that the LS6 springs are recommended for this cam. Also the comp cams retainers will fit the LS6 perfect so it only makes sense to get those too. However my dad thinks that the LS6 springs and retainers arent needed and I can use the stockers. Engine will only see a max of about 5500RPM... and will mostly be street driven...

any imput on this? I just bought the valve seals I need for the heads today and Im willing to spend the money to have this done, but he thinks I dont need to have it done.

    Thanks

Stage 1 cam? Here at 60degree, we don't do stages!

I added stages because that is what people want. I offer custom cams and broke down some cams into stages as well. Stage 1 is the 1211 grind with 260 duration and .480 lift.

yeah I know I need the custom length pushrods for it, no question about it. But if I can use the stock valves and retainers and such, it just means Ill be saving money and put this engine in quicker.

I mean im just going to leave it as stock or put the LS6 springs and comp cams retainers in. But if this will work fine with stock then Ill go with that.

yeah the 1211 grind is VERY close to what the site ( and basically everybody here ) agrees on for what cam to use on OBD1.5

Where is it all listed? I don't see it... heck I don't even see the cam unless I click on "popular products".

Your ramp up rate on the 1211 grind is higher than the stock cam. This means you need a stiffer spring to keep the valvetrain motion under control.
FYI, the LS6 springs need different seals than stock as well as the LS1 spring seats. They will not fit the stock 3100 valve stem seal/seat combination.

Ive got the seals that I need that should work, and Im going to have my local machine shop bore out the seats to fit. They will also be installing the springs and retainers as well... but its a 3400 not a 3100! ( not like it matters it still wont fit! haha )
