  • Custom UIM for the 3100.

I happened to have some extra parts laying around and thought I'd see what I could do to improve the uim. I liked the extra volume of the 3500 uim but, didnt like the short runners. The short runners seemed to raise the raise the powerband quite a bit.

So I thought that I'd keep the runners the same length and add intake volume. A larger tb is also on the list of modifications.

I guess I'll start adding pics now. Hopefully I'll have this thing welded soon. I'm getting my brother to tig it for me. So this thing will cost me almost nothing.

    Started cutting!

center cutout and braced from bottom to keep dimensions correct

    200ci plenum

    LS1 tb. I know it's big, but that's okay. It'll eventually be on a built turbo 3400.

Parts just placed together. The plenum will be much lower.

I wonder if your lower intake manifold
wouldn't be in the way if that new middlepiece gets lowered between those upper halfs.

you could possibly have issues with the injectorrail....

hmmmm, thats interesting, seems kinda square, are you gonna round that off at all? might help with flow if its not so angular

exactly. Round tubing would be better for this from a performance standpoint.

This plenum is so massive that I don't think flow will be a problem. I'm sure this intake will out flow my requirements. I am going to blend in the runners to the plenum after it is welded. It will have a velocity stack shape at the beggining of the runners. This will be for boost also. When you pressurize the plenum, flow isnt as big of a concern as with an N/A application.

This is something I'm throwing together very cheaply. If it does net any gains, atleast it looks cool. I guess I'll have to wait and see what it does.

Must be nice to have that kind of hood clearance..

i had about 1/4" between the 3500 plenum and my hood bracing. So i cut out all the bracing.
