  • 3400 top end on a 94 z26

I have a a 94 z26 that I want to add a little horsepower to I was thinking about a 3400 topend also wondering if my tranney out of my 96 lumina with a 3.1 would give me a lower fdr if so are they phisicaly the same they are both 4t60es but I herd the w bodys had a lower fdr I want to get in the low 16s but still have a good Daly driver i will have a exhaust and a cai how much is involved in a 3400 top end swap It needs a head gasket right now so I will already have the top end off

If you can get the 3400 heads, especially if you are replacing head gaskets, do that as well as it will make the swap MUCH easier. If not, then you will have to clearance the lower manifold for the stamped rockers, as they hit the lower manifold. Since you have a 94, the heads do not have the provisions to add the factory roller rockers. But, swapping the heads and all the top end equipment will net you a much better increase in power than just the top end by itself.

Also note that you will need to get an adapter in order to use your stock EGR on the newer plenum.

I believe he is going for the whole top end, 3400 heads included. Depending on your altitude, low 16's is easy. I did a 16.0 on my stock motor with nothing more than a dynomax ultraflo, and full street trim, and the old O2 and cat.

I have a new O2 sensor now (what a difference!) and still the stock 2" exhaust and cat. I'd say with those goodies and a tune up you should run a low 16 if not better.

so with a cai and a 2.5 mandrel bent exhaust no cat and a flowmaster new plugs and wires and If I keep the heads I am going to mill .040 off of them to make sure they are level the valves were done not to long ago but the guy put in some off brand gaskets and I dont think he got all the old off he started it up found out it did not seal and gave up on it. if that would get me in to the low 16s i would be happy because it is my daily driver i have a v8 s10 for dragracing

.040" is a lot to mill. Do you need that much?

You can get .020" of that by using .040" compressed height Camaro gaskets for the iron head motors.

Be wary of how much you mill off the heads.

If you keep your 3100 94 heads you'll have to grind the LIM for rocker arm clearance...
