superdave i saw your build specs for your 3500. since ihave one that i am fixing to build i have a few questions. i saw your using the stock crank what about your connecting rods? what brand piston are you using? did you bore it over? i plan on doing pretty much everything else you have done. but i can not find a true .030 over piston or forged connecting rods that will fit the crank journals in the stock length. i want to build it to handle aprox. a 100-150 shot on it. suggestions?

Eh, my stock 3400 held a 100 shot just fine. Fel Pro headgaskets didnt like it though, and that was a "quoted" 100 shot, dynoed at 60whp.

Connecting rods are forged from the factory.

Just an FYI, I have seen a 90k mile gen1 in an fbody with a 100 shot. Lasted until the car finished rusting out.

If done right, nitrous is not as abusive as everyone thinks.

            Neither is forced induction

i think i would rather a 150 shot wet, but i would like to do a .030 over. closest i can find are 3.736 inch or a 3.74 for a 0.040 over, the 3500 is 3.7 inch. if the factory connecting rods will work i'll use them. with the pistons i would like to use is a issue also the 3500 piston pin diameter is .9447-.9448 the piston pin diameter on the kb piston is .927 could the piston pin bore be changed on the kb piston
to use the stock piston pin? would the stock pin hold up under a 150 shot?

the stock LX9 rods are powdered metal, not sure of they're "forged" or not but they're holding up fine for me. I was running the stock pistons.

Now that i have an extra set of rods i'll probably get them checked and send them out to be shotpeened. I'm not sure what i'm going to do for pistons next year yet. I'd like to go up to around 12.5:1 or so.. I have some ideas but nothing final.

why do you want to bore it .030"?

the stock rods and pistons will hold a 150 shot easy, just make sure to retard the spark timing and run good fuel.

What's the plan for those few extra points of CR?

well .030 sounded good with about 10:1 cr with the 807 cam grind thought that combination would work out nicely. but it seems that i have not found a .030 piston with a .944 piston pin bore only a keith black with a 3.736 piston that has a 9.27 piston pin bore. starting to look like i might have to change my mind about it. with nitrous i have a megasquirt in the works and also have the msd dis 4 that has a built in spark retard function that activates with nitrous and is adjustable should be able to sort that out with
one of the 2. other than getting measurments for the push rod lengths and having the heads, uim and lim done its starting to look like a staight rebuild cause i have not found aftermarket rings that fit the widths of the stock pistons inless the ring grooves are opened up. who knows
