engines almost back together. ran into some minor issues though.
the alternator brackets at ther rear of the alternator had to be ditched. the big port 3100 upper manifold, uses less bolts and seems to be taller than the 3100 small port.
the vapor cannister purge solenoid that's mounted near the throttle body on the big port 3100 was left off in favor of the solenoid mounted underneath the coil packs, because.... 1, the wiring isn't going to stretch that far, and 2..i didn't have time to route new vacuum lines.
this has truly turned into a mix and match situation, but it all seems to be working so far...........Comment

just a bit of info.
difference between 96 3100 throttle vs. 00 malibu 3100 throttle body.
linkages are obviously different. the throttle body mounting gasket is slightly different.

Yes ditch those alternator brackets that go to the manifold. Then get a bolt and nut to attach the alt where you are missing one of them by the manifold. It will ride just fine without the bracing to the manifold.
You are correct on the solenoids.
On the TB's, you can swap linkages between the two. It's been brought up in several 3400 swap threads lately. BUT I would first measure that 3100 2000 TB to see if it's indeed bigger or not. If it's not, then you woulnd't want to swap. If it' is, then swap away. If you measure it let us know what the size is. Your 96 should be 52mm. Some say even the large port 3100's are still 52mm despite having the 3400 heads and intakes. 3400 TB's are 56mm.sigpic

yes, sad but true. the 2000 3100 malibu throttle body is EXACTLY the same size as the 96.......Waaaaahhhhh!!!!!
the difference in the throttle bodies is by the i.a.c motor. for some reason the 2000 throttle body restricts the amount of air around the iac.
i ran my 96 throttle body for now. i'll let you know if there is an idle problems with it mounted to the big port intake. the mounting gaskets are the same though.
i'll have to find a 3400 throttle body..........Comment
