if you choose your piping to big/long you will generate
a sort of delay till boost hits a certain value.

    I think 2.25-2.5 is max.

    • yeah 3.5 sounds good I have a turbo like lag now since boost builds with RPM thrue Drivehaft

      • So do you guys believe me now

        • 2.5 is what you mean right?
if you want less lag then keep the diameter small.
risk is you'll be running out of air sooner.

          • I would check your pulleys
and maybe fabricate an extra belt roll that's close to the slipping
            pulley.

BTW if you choose your sc pulley smaller then there is less friction area
there to prevent the belt from slip.

            • Add another idler pulley if need be.

I suggest you get your car tuned propely and all the other bugs worked out before you go and up the boost.

Add an intercooler and you will actually see a nice increase in power.

              • Z-Spec MAF install Discussion

I think I fiquered out how and where Im going to install the MAF on my 2001 Grand Am Gt Z-Spec S/C setup

Im going to turn the s/c outlet back until it is pointing a little less than st8 up
I will use a 90 Degree bend rubber intake hose.

that will return my s/c outlet piping back to the same leval where my s/c outlet was before, but saving 2 or 3 inches in space in length.

I will then connect my BOV directly to the 90 Degree bend. It will be leval and be relatively in the same place the S/C outlet was before. Being that the outlet has ben rotated back and fitted with a 90 degree rubber intake hose where the BOV then connects to return it to a leval intake flow.

I wil then connect a 90 degree bend on the other end of the BOV returning the intake flow on a st8 shot towards the throttle body.

I will then connect the MAF on the Rubber intake hose leaving about 2 inches of space left before I ve reached the Throttle Body.

Conect the MAF to the trottle body using rubber intake hose. it will then be about 2 or three inches from the intake of the throttle body.

Secure all Clamps and then start her up

The MAF will consequently be After the BOV for more acurate readings and before the throttle Body with enough room so they arent clamped up so close together they get confused readings.

                • Yeah open a new .txt file or word document and type up all the info you get from us. That way you can keep it organized and updated. One thread is fine if you have more questions just post them in the same thread they will get answered. This topic is general enough that it covers all issues needed for your car.

Read up on the forums for your DHP/ whatever tuner you have and read their guides. Once you have a good bit of knowledge and understanding it will be easier to tune it yourself and know what you need to do. It's best if you can do the work yourself.

                  • You can fit a MAF in there with the BOV. It will be tight but it can be done, just cut the silicone couplers in the right places. And an intercooler would be the first thing I did with boost from the start.

                      • Stop talking about it and order the couplers/elbows.

I want pics of the finished work by Friday.

                          • Soon as I get my MAF from superdave im putting it. I already have some spare cuplers and silicone intake tubing. I might have to tune down my boost for that MAF. I will do it if though. I prolly might even get more power at 8 psi if its tuned properly.
I fixed my belt slippage. Got a custom tensioner installed and a gatorback belt.
                            It did the trick
Cant wait till my MAF gets here. Superdave to the rescue! Thanks man

                            • What about the I/C? I have seen quite a few HP more at 1psi less with intercoolers installed. Remember 10*=1%hp increase (roughly) .

                              • FF: I was ribbing you. But john_v63400 needs to get in gear.

He may never get to an IC, but if he can get a MAF in and it tuned then a lot of problems will go away. The IC will just help make more power and reduce the risk of ping/knock. What more motivation is needed?
