  • trans shift points

First and foremost.. I think I have the 4T60-e like my Cutlass Ciera had??? I could be wrong, so somebody please confirm.

I'm wondering how some of you manage to alter the points at which your trans shifts... it seems to me that my engine has some pretty decent stock power, but I think it's shift points are all wrong... one thing in particular is when I'm making first gear stretch out... that long delay before second engages... I just know it should be quicker. Is the trans waiting for the smoothest point in which to engage? My guess is yes...

I just got this car, so I'm not really going to hard on it... I think it needs a fluid and filter change as it is, and I don't want it to pack it in on me too soon... I do know that if what I have is the 4t60-e it's a pretty good trans for this power rating, and I should be able to kick the shiza out of it like I did in my cutlass from time to time.

Guess I'm not asking any particular question... just wanted to shoot off about the car... see what comes of it..

        good link.

on to tranny info, your tranny shifts slow becuase of line pressure, or lack there of
you can get a shift improvment kit, as well as add shims to the accumelators or however its spelt :P

        and get an adjustable modulator.

to change actual shift points you need to "tune" the ECU

In a 97 malibu, you have the 4t40e trans, which is ok.....but there are no "shift kits" available that I am aware of. Also I agree the 1-2 shift sucks on these trannys.

ok so while the 1-2 shift on this trans is shite anyway, it could then be exagerated by a dirty filter...

see if I let it wind up too much, 1-2 or 2-3, the engine will drop off, and as the trans tries to shift, it will give a couple shudders... usually two, at a particular throttle... I can minimize the shudder of course by reducing throttle pressure... now, i didnt want to get into this because I don't want to hear what I dont want to hear... but this is why I'm looking to a trans service first... the motor is still strong at 250,000, but the recently installed trans only has 80,000 kms. Maybe it sat around for a while before being put to use again. I'll see what happens.
