  • Volumes of the 3500?

    Has anybody CC'd the runners, ports, or plenum on the 3500 heads? I started calculating them by measuring the top of the runners, and calculating with length, but I was hoping maybe someone has already done it?

    Also, when CCing the chambers, I plan on using a syringe and oil with a plexigless block off. Will the valves hold the oil while I'm doing this if the springs are installed?

    I'm asking because I need to try and come close to a VE of the engine for turbo(s) selection.

    use a syringe or gradualted cylender. on the race motor, i use cooking oil for ccing combustion chambers, it works quite well. methanol or water is what nhra uses for ccing super stock cars, there is a little varience between both.

      114.4 cc for the stock 3500 intake port and 68.6 cc for the stock 3500 exhaust port. 32.4cc combustion chamber. I haven't measured the lower intake or upper.

        Measuring the small port 3100 upper, 3400 upper, and 3500 upper would be very interesting to see how much volume each has. And the lower runners too. But I'm curious as to how much of a difference the plenums are.

          You would have to cut the upper on the 3100 and 3400.

            Might be able to do that... I already have a lower chopped to hell. Might as well chop up the upper (3100) as well.

              You mean to get rid of the partial runners on it to find only plenum volume? Yeah that's true. But I'm kind of curious just how much space runners and all they have. It seems the 3100 small port is smaller than a 3400 in space, it's thinner.

                3500 runners are 308cc's (measured the LIM).

                The plenum is going to be a little tougher.

                EDIT: this was with the injector in place.

                        Everytime I got to 3500-4000cc's, I would sping a leak. Mad props to you, Ben, who has the patience to deal with this.

                        I noticed inside the 3500 plenum, the TB neck extends into the plenum about 1/2 way, so I couldn't use the neck to fill or it would trap the water from rising much abouve the middle two ports. I ended up going through the brake booster port with a funnel, but the other vac ports that aren't threaded (or have bolt holes for a flange), and were near impossible to seal good.

                        I guess I'll try again later, or just use the origional rough estimate I came up with.

                          Have you tried pluging the holes and TB and filling through the ports up? Like with the plenum upside down...

                              I got 301.4cc for the number 4 3500 LIM runner. Figured I should compare with your results since I have a brand new manifold here to test with. I use marvel mystery oil for ccing. 3400 is next.
