  • Newbie Q - 2.8 vs. 3.4 difference

A 3.1 is a stroked 2.8 right? And a 3.4 is a bored and stroked 2.8, right? Is there any reason I cannot get 3.4 when rebuilding my 2.8? Or is the 3.4 block a different casting?

    Thanks for any input!

3.4 is a different casting... has more meat around the cylinders to allow for the larger bore.

Yeah, safe max over bore on 2.8/3.1L block is like 0.060" Which makes like 3.25 or 3.26L

Is there any significant weight difference then?

no. if there is any weight difference from a 3400 block to a 3.1L/2.8L block it might be only a few pounds.
