  • 2.8 to 3.4 Fiero

Well some of you old schoolers might remember me (Used to have 2 87 cavy verts) Well I have sold off one vert but I have one left that I plan on selling with new motor (it has been sitting for 4 years).

I went out last week and got me a 87 Fiero 2.8 auto (Been waiting 23 years to get a Fiero) The engine has a hard knock, come to find that there is a prob in the bottom end @ Cyl#2. I have been reading on here that the 3.4 is almost the same thing as the 2.8. My question is, will the intake and injector setup from the Fiero fit that set of heads, or should I have the 2.8 heads "worked" and just get a bottom end 3.4?

Bottom line I either need to get a crank and rebuild the 2.8 or get another motor.

the 3.4l is basicly a bored and stroked 2.8l. it uses the same heads, and your middle and upper intake will bolt right up to it. the only thing im aware of that you need to modify is the starter location. the rwd 3.4l has the starter on the oposite side that the fiero does. there are jigs out there for drilling and tapping the holes to mount the starter on the correct side.

before you put the motor in, id do a bit to it. if you are able to port heads, id do it. id also recomend a full comp cams kit (cam, timing set, valve springs, locks, retainers, lifter) with the 260h2 cam. coupled with some headers, or even tubular manifolds, itll wake the 3.4l up a bunch. if you are keeping the auto, id recomend a higher stall converter aswell.

got any pics of the fiero and cavy "z24" vert

      93-95 Camaro

You want the 3.4 from the 93-94 Camaro that will fit the iron heads.

FYI, the Fiero intake will starve a 3.4 because it basically starves the 2.8 already.

To use it you'll want to do heavy porting, or go to the Trueleo intake or the Edelbrock intake with carb.

FrancisT on www.fiero.nl makes the Trueleo, and you can see some good writeups on the carb builds. Oreif made over 230 hp on his 3.4 Fiero conversion, and he used the Performer Plus Edelbrock intake with the 8007 Holley carb, and then did a second build with EFI and produce the same hp.

Good luck on the conversion. It will please you when it is done, and yes, all the Fiero bits will fit on the 3.4 block, provided you have the iron head version.

If you don't, you'll need to run the Camaro intake and ignition system.

      Hope this helps.

Yes it all helps a little and I don't plan to drag race this car, I have a Z28 For that!! I just figured that if I have to change the motor that i'd make it worth while and spend the same going to a bigger motor then going with the same gutless 2.8 that is in there. I have pics of the Fiero but it might take a while to get pics of the cavy, seeing as the car is parked at the in-laws right now.

Cavy is for sale $300 for pickup Clean Title

        <10 miles on rebuild
all Z24 body kit (seeing as they didn't make the Z in a 'vert in 87)
        Top is shot needs replaced
Something wrong with fuelpump right now, wont run.

Yup I'm on there too!! I saw a very in depth writeup and pics on a 3.4 swap. But I may take the 2.8 out of the Cavy and drill the starter boss and put it in the Fiero (seeing as the motor is almost brand new and I already payed for)

Here is a question, Is the tab on the opposite side a FWD block configured right to be drilled for a starter? I only ask because the car isn't here at the house for me to look at
