  • 3500 Plenum swapped!

One word of advise. Don't run spacers and the plenum unless you've got a fair amount of vacuum tube lying around. My PCV tube and my tube that runs from the intake tube to the rear valve cover had to be modified to reach because the plenum sits up so much higher with the spacers.

I ran into only one problem. One of the holes for my EGR valve bolts was jacked up and had to be chased with a tap. It would have been much easier to do if I had the plenum off the car, but when I discovered it, it was all bolted in.

Overall, I'm a little concerned about the loose ends like the EVAP hanging and the pcv tube being barely long enough to fit into the rubber connector on the PCV Valve. I guess I could epoxy the connector to the tube so that it can't come loose.

This mod is definitely awesome though. I had the battery disconnected to splice the MAP so the car feels a little clumsy, but the torque was amazing. I floored it from 20 and it seemed like she was fighting not to lose traction.

My PCV elbow rotted off. I got the "HELP!" replacement but the rubber turned to jelly and collapsed making a terrible screeching noise one day hahaa. I put some angled braided hose from the same section cut to fit and it's holding up great. You could do the same and leave one side longer. Its in a Z shape. Here is a pic of mine.

    Oh and
This thread is worthless without pics!!!

heheh. I wanna see how you painted it/etc.

I went kinda lame on the paint scheme. I wanted to do more but time was running out because I've got a meet to attend next weekend. I went with a battleship gray for the plenum and ultra flat black for the bow tie. That PCV idea sounds excellent. I will be doing that some time this week. I have a little bit of electrical tape over it now. The tube sits in the elbow about 3/8" and seemed a little loose so I taped it to see if the idle would change (if there was a leak). Nothing happened, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. But the way you did it with the hose looks like a sure fire winner to me.

Hmm, I don't like that. Just painted I think would of looked better actually. Maybe a larger bowtie in the center would be better. Or just nothing. That bowtie looks out of place there and I don't like how it is on the top and side, or how skinny the outline is. No hard feelings just trying to help out. Looks like you did it in a rush job. If I were you I'd shoot some more gray over that area then take a picture and make some different idea in photoshop until you find something neat and cool, or just leave it bare. If you want I could help come up with something.

Pretty neat how everyone picks up some low end power when you'd think you'd get only high end power from the design. It's just better everywhere.

Actually, I like the bowtie there. It does look a little off with the bolt being there, but I dunno...I like it.

I dunno, I kinda like how it turned out. It looks better when you are looking right at it. I took that picture with the camera higher up than my head so you're kind of looking down on it. The bowtie I used is a emblem/sticker that Autozone sells.

I'll probably leave it the way it is. I really don't feel like taking that thing off again.

i'd cut the PCV plastic line in the middle and then find some hose that fits over it.. use that to extend it.

              looks good otherwise.

I dunno, maybe it's the angle of the picture, but maybe putting that sticker on the valve cover even? I like the color though you chose to paint it.

Good job getting it on! Is it in time for that meet you were going to?

I'll be fixing the hose today if the rain holds off.

Yeah, the meet is next weekend. So all that I have to work on this week is cleaning the inside of the car and giving it a nice wash and wax. Probably some engine bay detailing too.

Car runs great now. The pcm is starting to wake back up so my shifts aren't so elongated and sluggish.

As for the meet, there is a meet hosted by North American Impala Owners Association in Rockville, MD. It's called Impala Day, but they open it to all w-body cars. Oh, and 1 trailblazer SS I think.

Yeah I hate when the ECM has to re-learn everything. I usually won't disconnect the battery unless I'm doing something that could damage the ECM. The repair manuals all say to disconnect the battery for EVERY little procedure. I'm surprised it doesn't say to disconnect it when checking the air pressure in the tires LOL

LOL. Yeah, I felt that splicing the MAP warranted unplugging the battery. Besides, I needed to reset my CEL. I've got the p0420 from the high flow cat. I'm holding off til xmas or spring for the HPtuners software. They don't make an 02 sim for the 04 and up cars. Something to do with the pcm parameters being changed.
