  • 3.1 Cams

I have been watching threads around the board about diff. cams but not much on the 3.1. What would be a good cam to use as a dd but still make more power? I don't mind having it tuned. Also how hard of an install is a cam? What is involved?

Crane and Comp 260 grinds are both good for an otherwise stock engine. Tuning wouldn't necessarily be required, although you will always get more out of the cam with proper tuning.

As far as install, it is MUCH easier to install a cam with the engine out of the car. People have done it with the engine in the car, but to me, I would much rather just pull the engine and work on it on a stand than try to lower the cradle and then install the cam while confined to the wheelwell.

How do you do the cam from the top? There is no room to slide the cam out.

ya i want to know that too. It seems like the least hassle would be to do it through the wheel well.

Ehh I dunno, the cam comes out right smack dab where your fender making it impossible to get out without having the engine out, or dropping the subframe so the engine drops almost to the ground so you can get it out.

People drill a hole in the inner fender to get the cam out. Then plug it later with a rubber or plastic press in plug.

You can get the same grind from Delta for less than half the price. I got a 260 re-grind for $59, new are $89, lifters from them are $40.

That was my next question. Does this cam require any other engine mods?

The 262, not really, I would suggest porting, and if you want to take FULL advantage, a tune. Call Delta and tell them what mods you have now, and they will recommend a grind.
