  • 3100 Topend Swap, parts search and questions

So today I began searching for parts for my 3100 topend swap. I was going to use the enging out of my sisters totaled Z26, but I guess my dad sold the car to a local mechanic, so that isn't gonna happen. The problem I am having is I don't know exactly what parts I need.

So, I found some '95 3100 heads on ebay, and bought those. The problem is, they don't have rocker arms on them. Will the stock rockers and guideplates from the 3.1 work? If not, what will I need to buy to make it work, and how hard would it be to install 1.6:1 rollers? (I am worried about pushrod length and guideplate clearance, I know actually installing them would be simple) Also, I am assuming the 3.1L valve covers won't fit? Where can I get 3100 valve covers?

I know I will need the intake manifolds & throttle body, front timing cover, and the power steering pump from a 3100, but what else will I need?

I have read the article on the swap that is posted on this site, but it didn't answer all of my questions, which is why I am posting here.

I know getting the exhaust to work is going to be the hardest/most expensive part, but I am hoping to find someone that could custom make me some manifolds/headers for it.

Also, does anyone have tips on the swap? Anything to make it go along smoother? I probably won't be doing it until June or July, but I'm just trying to figure out exactly what I need to be doing.

    Thanks,

    Shawn

You can use 1.6:1 ratio rockers with no problems you do not need new valvecovers. I have installed Crane Gold Race roller rockers on a 1990 3.1L with no clearance issues to even speak of.

Mainly I was asking about the 3.1L valve covers fitting on the 3100 heads. I know the 1.6 rockers will clear the valve covers, but will the valve covers fit the heads? And also, your sure I'm not going to have any pushrod or guideplate issues with the 1.6 roller rockers. I am going to get them if they will work.

I am also looking for a COMPLETE parts list for this swap, as I want to have EVERYTHING I need before I start the swap. This means gaskets, hoses, wiring, etc...

Right now I know I need:

      Heads
      Rocker Arms & Guideplates
      Head Gaskets
      Lower Intake Manifold
      Lower Intake Manifold Gasket
      Upper Intake Manifold
      Upper Intake Manifold Gasket
      Throttle Body
      Throttle Body Gasket
Power Steering Pump/Reservior and lines for it
Modified Exhaust manifolds to fit the heads
      Exhaust manifold gaskets
Valve Covers (if the 3.1 covers don't work)
      Valve Cover Gaskets
      3100 Front Timing Cover

Can anyone else think of anything else i might need. That is mainly what I'm worried about right now.

      Thanks,

      Shawn

This is a pretty extensive list... Just click the Hybrid link.

Well with the Crane rockers there are no guideplate issues. I herd there are issues with the Comp ones.

Gen II valvecovers do fit Gen III heads.
