wait, back the truck up for a second...

your '88 MPFI 2.8 Corsica has aluminium heads, switching to iron heads would be a giant leap back in performance. Look around for a set of newer 3100 or 3400 heads as they are the best heads avaliable that will bolt on your block.

i found a set on ebay for $140

but you'll still need a large port 3100/3400 LIM and plenum

14054884 - Cast Iron Cylinder Head

This high-performance cast iron cylinder head is used on High Output transverse-mounted and fuel-injected rear-wheel-drive V6/60º engines. It is machined for 1.72" diameter intake valves and 1.42" exhaust valves. (Standard heads have 1.60" intakes and 1.30" exhausts.) This cylinder head is recommended for off-road V6/60º racing engines.

that's what GMpartsdirect.com said they were.. lol

why would it be a giant leap backwards if the ports are bigger than the stock ones "(It is machined for 1.72" diameter intake valves and 1.42" exhaust valves. (Standard heads have 1.60" intakes and 1.30" exhausts.)" ?
and, unfortunetly i just dont have the time to go looking for new intakes.
and im using a '92 lumina apv 3.1 block

Your car came with iron heads?

Look at the difference between iron and aluminum heads...

The iron heads won't flow as good, even ported.

is'nt the port size the same between the cast with 1.72/1.42 and the aluminum ones?
what i'm trying to do is figure out is which heads will bolt up to a 3.1 block from a 92-93 lumina apv that will not require new intake manifolds or at least the smallest number of mods.

You're car came with aluminum heads. Don't the iron heads have different intake setup anyways?

The aluminum heads on the 2.8 aren't as good as the 3x00 stuff, but also your intakes are a big restriction too. The design plain sucks compared to the 3x00 stuff. So not wanting to swap intakes for the sake of easiness really isn't going to get you anywhere.

If you want to stick to the gen2 stuff then port your heads and intakes and get a cam but it still won't be as good as 3x00 stuff.

ok well i can always do that later ,thanx alot.

come to think of it the 3.1 from the van is not MPFI so will the '88 2.8 heads fit the '93 3.1 block?
fyi the corsica was manufactured in september of '87 but is an '88 model.

the 3.1 TBI from that APV van is an iron head engine, just in FWD form. Seriously though, don't even waste time on those heads.

In your case, with that APV engine and it's pistons you will end up with around 11:1 compression with the switch to aluminium heads. That's really not bad at all, I actually considered using that APV engine for a hybrid a while back but i couldn't find one with less than 100K miles on it.

So lets just get all of our facts straight here..

                    1. you have an 88 corsica with a 2.8 aluminium head MPFI engine

                    2. you have a 3.1 TBI Iron head from a Lumina APV that you want to use

                    3. you want some performance heads

                    Is this correct?

If so then i still stand by the newer 3100/3400 top end, bar none you can't get anything better than that from GM (that will fit). 11:1 compression isn't too bad, you'll have to run premium fuel but overall it will perform VERY well.

the lumina APV's 3.1 TBI was like 120 HP, even less than your 2.8 is. With the top end swap and a moderate cam it's possible you may see the 180-190 HP mark.
