  • Gen 3 lower Gen 2 upper

I plan to use a 3500 shortblock, and bolt gen 2 heads on top. I don't think I have ever seen anyone do this combination here. Its mostly a gen 2 bottom end with a gen 3 top end or just a whole gen 3 swap. but hell maybe someone has done this like I want to.

My question concerns the pushrods. Was wondering if anyone had the lengths I would need when using this combination. I doubt I can use the gen 2 or even the gen 3 pushrods with this combination. I will be using Crane roller needle gold race rocker arms if that matters at all.

    One question. Why?

Inferior top end = less hp.

The heads aren't really the issue on the gen 2 and if shaun plans on using one of those trick intake setups, I can see this being worthwhile I think you can use the gen 3 pushrods. Its the same layout for the valves and it looks like it matches up no problem for the height. Of course, if the 60V6 know it all wants to correct me, im sure raven will post.

I didnt' mention this in the first post but the reason is because I have a set of ported out gen 2 heads that flow better then stock Gen 3's, plus I have a ITB intake that is matched to the gen 2 heads. If the ITB ports were matched to gen 3 then I would prob use gen 3 heads.

This being the reason as I also have a 3500 shortblock with the forged crank in it. I figure it will be a good combo power wise and reliability.

I can always measure I guess, but thought I would ask first in case someone already knew the measurements, or if stock gen 3 length would work.

          WTF?

Ben you really act like a fucking kid, you should stop, because you only make yourself look bad.

I don't think using any genII part is worthwhile, especially the top end, since it's kown to flow less than the genIII top end, as a whole or in parts.

Anybody who builds engines will tell you it's the top end that makes the power, not the bottom end.

Those ITB's would be hot though.

Gen2 heads aren't bad if ported out right, the LIM isn't the greatest for overall flow but with a little work it'll do ok. One thing's for sure, it'll have pretty decent compression!

Besides, with ITB's on there the crappy Gen2 plenum is out of the picture.. that's 1/3 the battle.

Gen3 pushrods should work, geometry wouldn't be perfect.. not sure how good they'll work with the gen2 guideplates so you may end up with a custom hardened set...
