so the 3.1 pistons will fit in a 2.8 block? wouldnt the bore go into the water jackets? and i thought the 3.1 had a longer stroke.

also would those gen III 10218168 heads work, and would they be better than the genII 10048649 ones?

The 2.8 and 3.1 have the same bore, different stroke. The 3.4 has the same stroke as the 3.1 and bigger bore.

The 3.1 (pistons) have the wristpin located in a different location than the 2.8, to compensate for the longer stroke...

EDIT: also so they could use the same rods (5.7" small journal).

ok so here's what i think i should do:

get a 3.1 block (i have one out of a '93 Lumina van)

get either 10218168 or 10048649 heads

get some flat or very shallow head pistons

        get a 3.1 crank

        bore the block .050 over.

        what im unsure about is:
at what point of piston recess or lack thereof might i experiance pinging? and would it be possible to mill the heads?

will any of those cams work from the pushrod performance page http://60degreev6.com/showthread.php?t=25041

and would any of them requie different pushrods?

        what do you guys think?
