  • building destroked 3400

well..made the discision to build it !

the 3000 engine based on the 1997-3400 block and ported heads with only
    16 miles on them ! ! !
will be using a 89 '2.8L-v6 beretta crank, this way I can use the
original crank sensor for the ignition build up.
rods will be from scat for a 327 engine/forged of course

I will be using clevite 77 main and rod bearings in standard size(max.strength).
for now it looks like i am going with the stock 3400 oilpump)seems sufficient).

stock camshaft and pushrods will have to do for now.
thinking about some LS6 valve springs since it will be blown
    by a m90 supercharger.

and eventually a set of home made headers with 1.75 primairies.

looking for 250hp at the crank to start with.
    with aprox.10-12 psi
and the will to rev to 6500/7000rpmīs

    should be possible right ?

Iīll post some pics later guys

    and the 3400 ported/polished head intakeIMG]http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s238/futurefiero/portedintake3400head.jpg[/IMG]

    the intake bowlIMG]http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s238/futurefiero/intakebowl3400head.jpg[/IMG]

    the exhaust port

    the scat 327 rods

Yes, and thank you for the pics of the ported 3400 heads. Mine are getting started soon, did you port the lower to match?

Good score on the low mile block, too.

              Nice build!

1.75" primaries are too big, i'd stay with 1 5/8".

okay, thanx for the fix el diablo.

yeah..maybe keep the primairies a bit smaller.
                since it's not a 3.4L but a 3L displacement engine.

                I'll keep you posted guys.

Are you going to polish the combustion chambers?

That 65mm TB looks like it might bolt on to a 3500 plenum. That would be a nice upgrade too Looks like the way a mustang 5.0 throttle body bolt pattern is, and those bolt up with just enlarging one bolt hole or so.

Am I correct in that that throttle though opens the same direction as the stock 3400 TB does?

You should be able to do 250hp crank with less than 10psi I would imagine.

those combustion chambers will also be done.
the work on intake wasn't finished either,it needs some beedblasting
to rough it up a bit,to smooth for the intake side is not going to be optimum.

the TB is from an alfaromeo 1.7L !!!(imagine that)

and wether direction it opens..eh..don't know
                    I don't have the 3400 TB here.

I was also thinking of making a oilspray to cool the pistons 5/6.

3400 TB opens same direction as 3.1mpfi/2.8 I believe.

Do you have the entire engine? Does the plenum say 3400 on it, or better yet, does it attach with just 6 bolts?

The only reason I ask is because, from what I remember, blocks with the letter "A" on them are 3100s. 3400s have a "B" on them, and 3500s have a "C". I could be wrong, but if you only have the shortblock, I'd measure the bore to make sure its a 3400.

Ok, that's cool. Like I said, I wasn't sure exactly... I knew the 3500 was a "C", and that the earlier models were either A or B, and just that I remembered that they went in order, but obviously GM opted not to do that.
