    well since i got screwed over the first time around on pistons im gonna do what i had planned on in the first place, goin forged and gettin EXACTLY what i want... 10.5:1 compression! (i just have my heart set on those #s for some random reason lol)

    i had ross pistons recommended to me, it seems like every1 goes with wiesco though. this is for the 3400 btw

    i was looking at www.rosspistons.com and came across some of the things they can do on their pistons.

    pin oilers ROSS pin oilers scrape oil from the cylinder wall and force feed it to the pins. On designs which have a high pin placement due to long strokes and/or long rod lengths, ROSS will angle drill the pin oilers. This operation is included on each custom piston at no additional charge, unless otherwise ordered.

    gas ports Many ROSS Racing Pistons are custom made to the customer's specifications simply because no one piston design is correct for all applications. Different types of racing require different piston designs. Not only does the type of racing, head style, induction system, fuel and camshaft specifications affect the design features of a racing piston, but different engine types have their own needs. Gas ports allow cylinder pressure to go directly behind the top ring and aid in sealing. Gas ports are very effective when used with tight ring grooves and high ring positioning.


    anybody have thoughts/opinions on these?

    this is going to be a daily driver that will see the track at least every few weekends (if i ever get it done!)

    i will be calling ross tomorrow to get more info and to their opinions

    are there any pics of the forced oilingsystem of the pinn ?

    seems interesting.

    I went with (budget) forged pistons from a 2L ford cosworth engine.
    these are 3.575 bore size and have the same compressionheight as the 2.8L.

    but than again..it wont work for everyone keeping the
    displacement in mind.

        yeah the oiling system was kind of interisting to me too! dont the 3400s have an oiling problem on the 6th cylinder?? maby this would be a good fix

          pistons 5 and 6 are problematic
          when power increases.

          I'm not sure if this is related to the pinn oiling though ??

          my 16 miles 3400 block had the nr.6 piston for breakfast though.
          the pinn wasn't moving freely on one side of the piston and this situation scuffed the pistonskirt and cylinderwall really bad.

            That skirt damage has nothing to do with pin oiling. Eek. That's a lotta heat, caused by a lack of oil. Why? Need to measure the piston to wall clearance, which is now destroyed....so, need to look at the other bores and skirts, but, this one cylinder could have not been clearanced properly and looking at the others might not yeild the answer.

            Or, you revved it to 9800 rpm for too long.....? "no!" you say?
            well, here's the deal - there's been a lack of oil here. Why.
            There's a few different ways this could have happened. Oil pressure ever drop? Break-in procedure went south is another possibility.
            Sixteen miles? man.....that's too bad.

              yeah..I first thought too it was a clearance issue.
              but since I am getting the block sleeved to get the smaller forged
              pistons to fit the clearance story won't be a problem.

              I'm still have to check the oilpump,to see if something went wrong there.
              but my guess is the clearance...the piston must have broke to the oilfilm that was on the wall there.

              all other pistons looked new !!

              the pistonpinn is really tight on one end though ?

                Well yes, if the pin was too tight it wouldn't allow the piston to center itself quick enough, thus dragging down the cylinder with too much side pressure.

                  i am building the destroked 3400.

                    Ross does a great job. I've used them for my Fiero turbo pistons as well as highly custom pistons for a DOHC race engine in one of my other cars.

                      I got Ross Custom Forged Nitrous Pistons in my 3.4 with 6" H-Beam rods. I think they're great
