    Curious what a properly flowed (bunch of head and intake work) 3.4 with Crane 272, larger throttle body, free flow 2.5" exhaust and 9:1 compression ratio should produce, starting from the stock 160 BHP.

    I have heard estimates in the 190-200 BHP range, but would be interested to hear from anyone with similar build that has actually had their engine/car on a dyno.

    In any case, this engine propels my 2100 lb. sports car along very nicely. I guess to get the same sort of performance in a 3200 lb. Camaro would require around 300 BHP.





    But then I could of course resort to a turbo on my car - interesting video at



    Do you think those results are realistic? Seemed a bit high to me.

    Tiago is well known on here, and yes, they are accurate. As far as power for your combo, I can't help you.

      nice ride!

      I like your ride. Very cool.

      I know a guy who did two 3.4 builds, one with a carb, and the other with EFI.

      Both dyno'd over 230 hp. He used the 272 Crane cam. That was with ported heads, and the 2.5" exhaust. He did a pretty good build so I think an average build as you describe should do 200+

          Well it is more curiosity than anything. I race old sports cars and build engines for them, but my street cars don't need to be nailed down to the nth degree. I just wanted a ballpark figure - looks like my estimates were about right.

          I suppose I could locate a shop with a chassis dyno and find out.

          As my daily driver is a turbo Fiero, I had a passing urge to fit an STS style rear mount turbo to this one, but figured I really didn't need the aggro of changing out the diff for something beefier and figuring out where to run the air tubing (it isn't easy to hide 3" tubing in a small car like this. Still, 300 BHP in a 2000 lb package would definitely be fun....
