  • destroked 3400.

    say I would wanna build a
    3000 engine(destroked 3400)with the 2.8L crank.

    could ya still make use of the 3400 cam and timing set ?

    and would those "lead in grooves" on the 2.8 crank be an issue
    on such a build ?

    just thinking it over guys

    The genIII cam and timing set can be retained. The crank snouts are the same size.

    No, the lead in grooves are a good idea, no problems from having them, only better rod journal oiling can result.

          thought so.

          so for example a 2.8-3.1-3.4 cam should all work in say a gen.1 or gen.2 ?
          I thought cam timing would be off when going to a 2.99 stroke crank.
          nothing's impossible-it's just a mindset

            Stroke makes no difference, only rpm. If the crank snouts are the same size and you are using the same timing set then the cam is still rotating the same number of times for every revolution of the crank shaft.



            Just from curiosity, why would you want to destroke the motor?

              Cam timing won't change. With the shorter stroke, the piston will just move slower for each crank revolution compared to a longer stroke.
              It all comes out in the wash.

                okay,good to be sure on that.

                now I still have to make the discision to destroke or
                to just bore and replace my pistons on my 16 mile engine.
