I own a 1987 Pontiac Firebird. It currently hits 0-60 in a measly 9.5-10/5 seconds. Somewhere in there. Could a performance chip pick that time up any, and if so what would be reccomended?

I am under the same user name. A chip wont help that much. Ask this same question in that forum and I will respond with a decent answer'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons
I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

He didn't mention a motor or anything, so for all we know were dealing with a tuned port 5.7. Who knows.'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

Ok the engine is a 2.8L v6. (And yea, it's a 60 degree lol)
I really want to get that 9-10 sec 0-60 somewhere between 7-8 if possible. I'm not sure how much hp a performance chip could give, but if it helps it helps. And if anyone knows what steps could be taken to improve the 0-60 time I'd would really appreciate the help

Any chip at best will drop you .3 in the 1/4. Mine are all .2-.3 with the mpfi 2.8/3.1 FWD motors.
What kind of budget are you looking at? You might be better off swapping in a bigger motor if you want to have a good amount of power. A 3400 top end swapped and converted to distributorless 2.8 could be fairly wicked in its own right, but a 2.8 is not going to have much bottom end. Gearing might be something to consider as well. Not sure what your MPG vs HP ideal is so let us know. If its a daily driver, I would probably just leave it aloneBen

Well, I do drive it a bit, but not too much. Just a couple miles a day. The MPG is about 22 city driving I belive (give or take a couple). Budget, well I'm looking to spending at most a couple thousand over a period of time. So there probably won't be any BIG changes.
I've heard that 'their are small details that can be added/edited under the hood to give you a little more power'.
I'm not too sure changing the engine would really be an option though, as I have also been told switching out the transmission would have to be done as well.
