  • my Excuse

    Ok, since you all know I was stupid and killed my 3.4 I put in last year, I now have an excuse for the 3.5 swap. "it was a used motor hunny, lord knows what they did to it at the junk yard, I have to buy a new one, sort I might as well go bigger this time too, besides, this motor is just a little more than what I spent on the 3.4" Thats what I told the wife, and didn't bother to tell her that I also need a $385 throttle body, ect... So thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it. So here goes my 3.5 swap. Now, there's a little white cavalier in here that has done some major work to his motor and since it's going to be while before i get around to actually putting this in, would the owner be so kind as to let me in on his cam specs, info on his getrag 282 swap, where he got full legnth headers from (are they true dual? I saw the S&S ones and don't like them comming down to one pipe), and anything else important. BTW love the way yours sounds running throught the aerochamber mufflers, I'm doing that too.
    sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
    A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
    Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
    Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
    PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.

    He built the headers
    The 282 came stock
    the cam specs are around somewhere
    you need to slightly rework the rear mount and the front mount bracket(j-bodies, at least)
    and dont forget the external crank trigger

    Cammed 3400 --> 224whp 210wtq
    Cammed 3500 --> ???
    1 of 5 3500 J-Bodies

      There's another post on here that detials what's needed on a SFI car. Swap the 3100/3400 timing cover and crank pulley over to have the 24x sensor, and put on the external crank sensor setup. Use a 3400 plenum or the 3500 & TB adapter here and whatever TB you wish (3400 or TCE 65mm).

      I'd advise against a cam since youa re 95 OBD1.5 unless you are going to swap engine harness/ecm etc to a 96 so you can get a DHP and tune it. If you do go cam, a very mild one would be the way to go, nothing radical like superdave has.

      Also the 3500 will be likely close to the limit of what the stock ECM can handle, but still will run good and fast.

      If you're going cam/boost you're looking at OBDII swap and 5speed swap likely.

        LMAO, I love those kind of excuses....

        Fortunately, though, my wife is supportive of my habit. As long as it doesn't involve drugs or another woman (and I leave time for my 4 kids) she's cool.

        Sorry I don't have any answers for your questions.......

          Isaac, yep, obd2 swap for sure and hp tuners, I was looking at their software and it works for me, at $650 on their point system, I think thats do-able. And I'm still paying on the getrag 282 for the stick swap. I WANT LOPE!!!
          Yes I have built a mean 4 cyl. Yes I am trying to build a real mean v-6, but no matter how hard I try, no matter how much I lie to myself, no matter how fast I make that v-6, Nothing beats the teeth rattling, ground shaking, make my ears bleed, and flatten my eyeballs from accelration Big Block V-8's BABY!!!! (insert tim allen grunts here) So I want a wild cam like the little white cavy, I'm not interested in practicality, I might break what I spent months to build and every dime I made, but it was fun doing it, and if it breaks, it just means it wasn't strong enough or fast enough to feed my need.
          another note, my 3 daughters help build the cars with me 12, 9, & 6. and the car IS my mistress. Just ask my wife.

            DHP is cheaper than 650 and I think most folks like to go with it. It's 3xx.00 something. Just remember if you go boost in the future (more power, it's the way to go) that your cam should be compatible with it.
