this guy found a way to put an m90 from a 3800 on his 3400 - anyone know this guy or how he did it what the intake looks like etcetera? If we could start doing this with some welding skill of course this would be pretty simple those m90's are EVERYWHERE.

Yeah I know him. Scott McGavin. This is old. Machine your plenum and weld on some aluminum plate and bolt it up. If you don't mind the hole in your hood.... :P Turbo would be more efficient and fit under the hood.

I understand you want a bolt on solution, but I'd rather see somone make a bolt on 3.8 ford thunderbird supercharger (as I believe those don't bolt to the manifold, and can be routed to an intercooler and then the throttle body) so that we could bolt it where the A/C compressor was, and then route it to an IC and to our throttle body. That'd be sweet. If I ever get a project car I'll probably move the radiator out where the condensor was and try to do that unless I go turbo.

well as far as turbo goes. i am just liking the idea of the supercharger better just because the easy behind it IE: less piping. plus having to make my own intake AND my own manifold. a little more to making a turbo setup. and any GOOD turbo setup should have a IC. supercharger- you don't NEED it your making air - sort of- rather than sucking in hot exhaust. i am prone to turbos BUT because i want to make this as simple as possible because of the daily driver reasoning behind it.

BTW i used to have an 85 fiero gt took out the cavy last night for a beating a street were its all curves for about 10 min near where i live, and i believe that the cavy handles BETTER- i just put in a sway bar it definitely helps. at turns marked 35 i was no kidding taking them at about 78 mph and in the fiero i could maybe take them at 65-70, its just that the fiero's arse end always kicked out at a certain limit even with performance rims and tires and had allot of wheel hop. and i know stock for stock this cavy is quicker and faster then the fiero gt i had.

i just don't get it why is there not more people building these light little v6 cavys? lot of power -v6. light weight 2600 pounds cheap 1k for me. very stock manual trans getreg that even the old style holds to a v8 with the proper clutch. there should be more performance parts for these v6 cars and their suspension WAY more potential than a civic any day. oh and btw i get 32 highway mpg and 26 city if i don't beat on it. come-on civic killer all day long. damn japs.

almost forgot is there a way you could get a picture of the intake he had machined? you are right about it sticking out of the hood that does look alittle... cheesy i guess good enough reason to make or get a cowl hood thoug. but wouldn't the ford m90 stick out also?

All he did was take a stock plenum, cut a hole in the top, then welded on a 1" piece of aluminum and bolted the SC to it. There really is nothing to see... But I'll see if I can't dig up a few pictures of it.

IIRC, that was also and possibly still is an untuned OBDI.5 ecm running it... So there is NO way in hell he is getting its full potential.

thanks a bunch i hope to see the plate and the intake with out the plate- cause if that's all he did that's not that hard. i got a few different buddies that own machine shops up here in MN i know one will do it at least. i don't know about the other- northern cylinder head is the one i don't think will but D&G might. also what pulley he used for the entire setup btw did he keep ac and all that other stuff?

I've got a stellar photo, it shows as much as you need to see, and it's full res. - about 630Kb so 56k warning. I took it a couple years ago @ Berettafest 05

so how hard do you think it is to see over that lol

You're not going to find a cowl wide enough to cover that up. If you did it'd be so high it would be retarded.

Also turbo's you'd think would be hotter than a supercharger, but actually they are more efficient and don't heat up the air as much especially when you start putting smaller pulleys on the supercharger. That's why those supercharged grand prix folks when they switch to a turbo without an intercooler they actually make more power with less boost. Plus there isn't the parasitic drag from turning the supercharger, that helps too. But a roots style supercharger is fun because the power is right there off idle, but for FWD, that's not so good.

Also, if you want to see a lot of fast cavi's, check out www.v6z24.com. Lots of 3400 swaps on there some with turbos. Don't forget superdave's z24 with a cammed, long tube header 3500 too

i think he said something like the charger sticking like 6 inches out of the hood.

I like the idea. and of course anyone can improve since he already laid the ground work. His wheel hop and traction issue can be fixed, like going down to a 15" rim and opting for a tire with some side wall and dropping his pressures even more, that way the tire can sag into the pavement. I'm curious why he would go through all this machiing and NOT machine some solid engine mounts, or even stiffen the back side of the car to prevent weight transfer on launch. He is learning, as we all are. Given some time and money in the future I'll give this a shot. I bought my 282 BTW from that ebay listing, the new ones with the 3.92? gear in it and close ratio. I also got him to put a posi unit in it and replace the bellhousing to a 3.4 housing, all for $1450. Next I get to track the mounts, make them, obd2 swap, and reprogramm it. Of course all this is after I get those lifters fixed. Someone lend me $20k.

Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.
