ok, well i did the number crunching last night, if i have the block zero decked, use the stock pistons, and remove 15 cc from the alum heads combustion chamber i will land at 10.3 CR. sounds good for me.
    For my calculations i used
.035 as head gasket crush size
.016 avg deck height clearance (distance from top of piston to top of bore at TDC)
    .0000 zero decked block
12cc for stock 3.4 piston dish
    51 (avg) cc iron head
    28 cc alum head

is this really worth all the effort? what kind of power am i looking at, difference wise? from ported iron heads to ported genIII, distributor to dis, and ecm swap. what im getting at is this: am i going to waste $500 on parts and 50hrs on actual swapping effort for 25hp to 30hp?

if i were to get a wiring harness and ecm from an 88-89 z24 5spd would i be set as far as the ecm goes?
what about the speedo, does it need re-cal?
what about gauges, oil press, coolant temp...is it plug and play?
does the 7730 ecm control any aspect of the a/c?
what about the tps and iac, gm used different sensors from 88 (z24 tb) and 2001+ 3400 tb.
the fuel vapor canister, i know some where around here it was changed to where it had some sort of electronic means about it.
fan, was controlled from a temp switch, does it need to be re-wired now?
valve springs, do i need to have the seats machined for the crane ____ (damned slow ass alaskan internet!! cant even load the cranecams page!) its the matched spring for the crane 272, whatever it is, its what i have on my iron heads now, why buy new ones? lol

any help would be great folks. and sorry for the questions, i dont really have the time or the resources to research this to my fullest. instead ill pick at your brains...you all seem very well versed on the 660, and hybrids. thanks

I DO NOT recommend that spring. I believe they cause a ticking noise at high lift because of the design of the inner damper.

It has happened to me on 2 cams on 2 different engines.

I would go with LS style beehive springs from GM or Comp

betterthanyou, you have told me this in the past. when i ran the spring on my fiero i had no noises at all. the valvetrain was silent enough i could even hear the injectors ticking, the air sucking past the TB, and the belt moving through the air. i had no noise issues with these springs. that being said, i feel no need to waste whatever i spent on these springs, just to get what one person prefers. no offense intended...im just cheap and stubborn.

damn i wrote a big long msg and it never posted. i like the crane springs. never had a problem with them. i dont want to waste money on new springs. im stubborn and cheap. no offense to you (betterthanyou)

Even if you only gained 25 to 30 HP by swapping to the new top end, that's about 20% gain, whihc is HUGE. People will spend thousands of dollars and lots of time for gains like that on other engines. Think about all the time you save attempting to port the iron boat anchors, can now be put into swapping on parts worth swapping.

Speedo is only effected if you change trannies or rear gears. Gauges in your case do not run through the ECM. The values of the TPS, MAP, Coolant sensors all match to the proposed ECM (GenII V6). The only sensor that needs to be swapped is the Knock Sensor you need one to match what the ECM came from.

The fan relay control gets connected to teh ECM, it's a single wire and single connection, takes control of the fan away from the "engine" and places it on teh ECM, whihc if you have A/C and the trigger input is connected to teh ECM, the fan will now turn on with teh A/C, along with adjusting other parametrs.

In short the swap is completly worth the effort.

I know what your saying. And I have no noise with my current cam with 436 lift at the exhaust valve. My old cam made 451 lift and it made noise. We then used the same Crane springs on my buddies 4.3L engine and he had identical noise and he runs a roller cam and different rockers. So the only similarity was the springs. He now has Beehive springs at home and ready to go in. When they do go in and the noise is gone I will have a difinitive answer. If there is no change then it was a wild coincidence that we both had cam noise after swapping cams which were two completely different grinds and different cam styles.

ok so doing some more number crunching in desolate alaska.... the trueleo intake i have now is too small. i need the 3x00 set up. i need a parts list for everything i need in order to create my 3x00 swap on an iron head 3.4. additional to the parts i need step by step directions to make a fluid swap when i get back to VA. I will have only 3 weeks to complete this and get it back to the dyno to get tuned. so it has to be right the first time, no second guessing, no hang ups...
                  parts:
95 3.4 pr iron head block, stock pistions
                  3400 heads
                  3400 lower intake manifold
                  3400 upper intake manifold
                  3400 fuel rail
                  7730 ecm

                  icm 88-90 Z24
                  ????? length push rods
                  .0XXX thick head gasket
                  and instructions
install heads with thicker heads gaskets
grind off tab on timing cover
                  install oil pump drive/dizzy blank
                  measure and install pushrods
                  set valve lash
                  install lower intake
                  install fuel rail, injectors etc
                  install upper intake
                  modify cable bracket/throttle linkage
                  replace 7130 ecm with 7730
connect wiring harness to ecm and route out firewall
connect sensors, switches, icm and coils
modify headers to bolt onto 3x00 heads
modify fuel lines so they will reach/connect
modify coolant hoses so they match fiero's coolant setup
                  make filter to tb hose
                  connect battery
                  start
                  tune

                  what am i missing?
does anyone have the lenght for the push rods?
where can i get custom headgasket spacers?

95 3.4 pr iron head block, stock pistions
You will have really high compression using the 3.4 pistons vs the 3400 pistons. IIRC the iron head pistons only have an 8cc dish.

iron head piston dish is 12cc...
if found a place thats made a headgasket spacer in the past. in the book written by greg wagoner he lists the place and the cost of the head gasket spacer...$100 i cannot remember the name of the book tho. his spacer was .075 inch. using that and the stock head gasket with a crushed thickness of .035, 12cc pistons, zero deck block, and 28cc combustion chamber i arrived at 10.6675 cr. thats not too high for pump gas at all. if i dont zero deck the block that increases my error margin and octane use, but im looking for the max i can take it while still being streetable.
since i dont have an engine on hand to actually measure the pushrod length im hoping somone else has done this swap before and has that info on hand.

i know the 3.4 dohc has a 7cc dish, from what i read and have seen the pushrod 93-95 camarobird 3.4 has 12cc dish. anyone know different? do you have some sort of proof? (not to doubt you, i am a see it-belive it person and like to have concrete proof)
