  • 3500 Head ? Help ASAP!

I'm ready to start my 3400/3500 hybrid. Filled it up with coolant and its running out a bolt hole in the front of the head. Its about 1 1/4" behind the timing cover and I can't really see the hole. Tried to put a 12mm bolt in it and it seemed right but about 4 threads in it is getting tight. Not sure what to do and I want to get this thing runnin! What goes in that hole?

Got it figured out. Its a 12 x 1.5 and I was trying to get a 12 x 1.75 in it. Seems odd because the 3400 heads didn't have holes there and the only other bolt on the engine that thread is the harmonic balancer bolt.

Doesn't the 3500 use a coolant temp sensor in the end of the head, making that an NPT thread?

Awesome Hows it running idle wise? Did you get the cam timed?

Its running and idling good right now. Unfortunately I don't have axle shafts yet so I won't be able to drive it for a few days. It sounds great though and the throttle response is crisp. I never did degree the cam, but I moved it a tooth on the chain like you said. The cam timing must be pretty close for as good as it runs and idles. I'll let you know when I get it drivng.
